Does anyone on the forum have any reasonably accurate info as to what GPA and ACT/SAT scores would be needed to be admitted to Vandy with a ROTC scholarship? What are the minimums?

From what the ROTC coordinators at Vandy have told me, as long as you are able to pass the physica standards, the standards for the scholarship are very similar to the standards for being accepted to Vandy.

I think if you go on the NROTC site, they have minimum requirements for ACT, SAT, etc. Of course, the minimums are just the ticket for entrance not neccessarily getting to play. I would love to hear from the Vandy ROTC guys on their stats when they got offered their scholarships.

I would also love to know
I remember reading somewhere that Vandy offers an annual 3k housing scholarship to NROTC students is that true?

Vanderbilt does give all 4 year scholarship recipients (from all branches) a $3,000 a year stipend to help pay for room and board expenses.

I think Vandy needs to be commended for that.

Crimsondude: My son is interested in NROTC at Vandy. We also live in Huntsville. He goes to Grissom HS. How about you?
Also have you applied to ROTC or are you just on fact finding?

Mits: I am just in the fact finding mode at present. My son is a freshman at Madison Academy, so we have a little while to go before getting real serious. He seems to be very interested in the academies, particularly USNA, but I have talked to him about exploring ROTC routes also.

Mits: Is your son a part of the JROTC program at Grissom? I go to Hendersonville High School and we often compete against Grissom at Raider Competitions.

Crimsondude: Pretty much same boat here. My son is also a freshman and is very interested in Annapolis (we moved down here from NOVA) but likes the idea of being closer to home during college (probably because of Mom’s cooking (and laundry skills)) therefore viewing the NROTC route.

Marine4Life: No, he is not in JROTC probably biggest reason is because he doesn’t want to cut his hair for the time being. I know I know but what can I say…

hey,

i am an nrotc mid at vandy and i actually came from madison, al and i went to bob jones. the procedure is that you apply to the nrotc/marine option scholarship and school separately. when applying for the scholarship, you choose three top schools whose programs you want to be in. ultimately, it really depends on where you go to school/get in because they can transfer your scholarship anywhere you go, for the most part. obviously some schools get more nrotc applicants than others (TAMU, VMI, etc.), but it’s pretty flexible.

i went to ga tech for my first year, with an nrotc scholarship, and then transferred to vandy with my nrotc scholarship. PM me if you need any more info.
