I am a Vandy freshman who just finished my first semester at Vanderbilt. I am pre-med who plans on majoring in English. I was wondering what my chances are for transfering to Northwestern for my sophmore year.

Oh come on. You have got to be kidding me? I just love these threads…people with uber stats and high grades asking if they can be chanced for admission or transfer.

Is this someone just bragging on being at Vandy? Wanting to show off a 3.5 gpa at Vandy who is premed and took 18 hours? Puhleeeze.

I am sorry. But really. If you are that smart, then you can figure out if Northwestern will take you.

But the REAL question is why on earth would you leave Vandy? Northwestern is a great school, but its a peer school to Vandy…on the same plain, literally.

If you are thinking of transfering for “love” (i.e. a b.f. or g.f.) then that is almost more ridiculous.

I am sorry to pop off like this, but these threads come up all the time (mostly in chance me threads for admission) and its nauseating. They are almost always kids who suffer from extreme narcissism and just want a bazillion people to ooh and aah at their credentials.

Congrats on your scores, stats and grades. Congrats on being at Vandy and doing very well. I take NOTHING away from you on that count. But get over it and if you really want my advice, STAY PUT AT VANDY and focus on your longer term objectives.

I was rejected from NU last year as a senior applying (class rank in high school screwed me up) and yes I am looking for a different environment. I honestly did not think a 3.55 at Vandy was even considered good.

Vandy’s median GPA is in the 3.35-3.4 range, but your 3.55 IS “considered good” in a pre-med track. I presume you took a fair number of tightly curved weed out classes in the fall. Should be looked upon favorably at NU. Good shot. No guarantees. No, not “uber stats.”

reason to transfer?: NU is a better school.

That said, I’d say that those numbers are OK, nothing too special, especially not the GPA. Go ahead and apply, but know that there are tons of other people vying for those few spots! Good luck

^@balla: yes I was enrolled in 2 intro science classes, which are weeder classes. We started with around 80 kids in my bio and chem classes, and by the time the final came around only 50 were left. I made an A- in Bio and a B- in Chem(Chem was my only B that semester).
