HEY guys I found this article, written Feb 14th of 2010 about transfer students!!!
includes quotes from Douglas Christiansen, the vice provost for enrollment and dean of admissions.

He says that their should be an increased number of transfers because of the number of limited spaces for freshmen. “there is an increase in availability for transfer students to be accepted.” due to the fact they have to lower the number of freshmen getting in because of lack of simple beds in the commons. Thus to keep the number of undergrads stable they have to get more students through transfers : )))) (that means us)

I really hope that this means the acceptance rate will be comparable to what it was last year (51%) and to the year before (56%).

me too talha! i never applied to a rolling admissions school, so hopefully things will work out with the high admit rate and all. you have like a 1 in 2 chance lols unlike certain new england and CA schoolls where you have a better chance of getting mauled by a walrus than getting admitted…

castiel, i didnt do wustl b/c it was a little too far for me. my folks are pretty adamant about chicago and NU as well becasue of the distance. and i kind need them to help me pay for my cardboard box aka dorm room on campus…

if i got into a top 20/15/10!!! school, i’d probably sleep (PG) with the letter after taking it to a fancy dinner. creepy i know, but i dreamt about this a couple nights ago and my dreams tend to be premonitory, so it’s bound to happen, right right? =)

lol omg Talha that made me so happy! WOOOH!!! omg that is so great.

LOL at basemantcat. You predicted Vandy soo hard. I think you should get in just for that alone.

haha aww thats too bad, WUSTL gives decisions 30 days after it receives everything. It would ease my mind if I get in! so where are you set on going other than the Colombine (yes, shockingly I don’t like CU and didn’t apply lol)?

I hadn’t seen that article before, but I had reached the same conclusion. That’s what I was talking about in my previous post. The only alternative would be to reduce the size of the student body rather sharply.

yeah I see what you meant now, but strickingly enough vandy did admit slightly more (being like 30) students in 09-10 for freshmen than compared to 08-09. If what the article states is even near truth then by logic (and the the fact that Christiansen wants the total to be around 6800 undergrads) the transfer rate should be incredibly close to what it was in 09-10 (51%). For in 09-10 the total number of grads was 6794!! They are going to have to keep this “up” I guess unless they decide to have a smaller student body or create more dorms to accept more freshmen rather than transfers! (As basementcat was hinting!)

I just hope even with these odds I don’t get screwed and not get in!!! AHhhahahahahahhaah;la;hlfds;hlfaf;lkddsal;hfndfodfsah08429yh;osdfn…I usually try to be patient but this wait is literally killing me…killing me softly lol.

Vanderawsomebilt is also my first choiceeeeeeeeeee/the only school I applied to for transfer : P
I go to Tntech currently in Cookeville TN. Known to be a “good” engineering school but I’d have to disagreeeeeeeee teachers are kind of disconnected from the students sometimes and well at least my teacher honestly does one example of a chem II problem and then expects us to grasp it immediately. Kind of a fail because for the first chem exam the class average AFTER the curve was 59… (I got a 90 : P) but still 59=NOT GOOD. (one of my friends got a 12–he dropped the class lol)

Are any of you guys applying for financial aid? Do you know if the Feb 1st priority deadline applied to transfers also? My fafsa was submitted by then but my css was submitted a little later… do you think this will decrease my chances of getting financial aid?

The only other factor I see that might be an issue would be anticipated yield, but I don’t know of any reason that one might change… so yeah, I expect admit rates to be pretty darned close, adjusting for any differences in the number of applicants (and I’ll have a bit of egg on my face if I turn out to be wrong).

transcollege138: a bunch of things. I e-mailed my admissions counselor at least five times, because I had a bit of a complication with sending in some extra required material; he was super nice and let me submit everything via e-mail so that my application would be marked as ready for evaluation as soon as possible!

im from TN go to school in TN. i hope the fact im from here doesnt count negatively! because i’ve been very well involved with the larger nashville community. (working on a youth radio program currently). gunther where do you go to school in TN?

Rbkhoops21 has a point. We’re guessing that the transfer acceptance rate will be around the same this year assuming that the amount of applicants are the same. For all we know though, there might be a LOT more applicants this year :/.

I got kicked in the balls by Vanderbilt senior year too(rejected). I watched youtube videos of it and it looks amazing!!! I really want to see it. plus the girls are fineeeeeeeeeeeee (i will calm down now)

The ladies ARE FINEEEE. I live almost 5 mintues from Vandy’s main campus and my cousin goes there so when ever I’ve gone to visit or just take a stroll through the campus I’ve seen some very purrty smiles ha (and the guys aren’t all that…so more purty girls for me yay! ha kidding). Man if we get in we need to meet up during the transfer orientation and the founders walk thing. But ahhhh Please. get. in. Me. ahahaaa Gunther I think you have a very high chance of acceptance after reading your stats. I didn’t get in during my senior year either : / but I hope my high college gpa and improved ACT score and pretty valuable ECs will be enough to get me in. :}
