Vanderbilt Transfer Thread [Fall 2017]

Hey guys!
I applied as a transfer last year and got waitlisted and plan on applying once more. Just thought I’d start a thread right now to get conversation going!
A little info about me:
I go to a 2 year college in Wisconsin and if I don’t get into Vandy next year I will either attend Belmont or University of Wisconsin (I have guaranteed transfer to the latter).

Glad you are going for Round 2! Why not! go for it. Especially when you have a great university like Wisconsin to back you up as plan B. I would be careful about taking out loans for any school in excess of what you have to spend for Wisconsin. Seriously–play your long game in higher education. Grad school can cost a lot of $ and there are less breaks on tuition at that level. Vandy has excellent financial aid should you qualify for any.

Hey, thanks for the reply! Yeah, I’m still a little unsure about Belmont because I was originally going to go there my freshman year but decided the loans were way too much. Two years wouldn’t be as bad, but I do think Wisconsin is an awesome school, too and I’m leaning towards Wisconsin as my plan B.
Vandy would be awesome, especially with their financial aid! Its one of the top factors that draws me to try applying again. Plus, I got waitlisted last year so as long as I’m doing better this year who knows, maybe they’ll have a spot this time

hey guys, not sure at all how competitive Vanderbilt is, but i wanna apply to transfer. mind if you can offer your whatever bits you know about admissions? my stats are listed here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1941275-chance-me-transfer-from-uc-davis.html#latest

It’s hard to tell. Admissions is really just a game, but you have a competitive chance based on GPA. However your ECs seem really lacking imo.

Last year I applied with a lower GPA but good essay recs and more EC than you have listed and I got waitlisted to Vandy. @gaokaomaster

When is everyone turning in there app?

I’ll probably be turning in my app late January @dullbd

Although last year I turned in my app mid Jan and still didn’t get my decision until probably like the fourth or fifth wave of decisions. Some people turned theirs in right before the March deadline and got their decisions immediately or within the first few waves

I’ll jump in(please chance me);
College: top 60 public university
Prospective Junior
Majors: Economics & Political Science
GPA: 4.0
ECs: president of 2 clubs, intern at congressman’s office, student mentor at local HS, part time job
SAT: 1390/1600

HS: bad-around 3.0

Will be sending in my app late January/early February

@HopefullyIGetIn I think you have nothing to worry about. You’ll probably get in. Not sure if coming in as a junior lowers chances at all, but your college record is excellent. 4.0 is like an automatic admission for transfers or that’s the vibe I got based off of who posted their stats and acceptances last year.

@somehmonggirl I hope your right. Also to clarify-I am a Sophomore now, but will be a Junior fall 2017.
Also-do you remember around what times decisions come out?

Hey guys, I applied ED2 last year and was denied. Hoping for a better outcome this year. (Please Chance)
College GPA: 3.77
Major: Biomedical Sciences (Pre-Dental)
EC: BMSA, BMRA, Pre-Health Peer Mentorship, Pre-Dental Organization, University Honors Program, Milwaukee Public Library Volunteer (15 hours)
High school GPA: 4.12/4.5
ACT: 31

I applied 2 years ago as a HS senior and was denied, but I’m applying again to transfer in for my junior year.
College: UT Dallas
Major: Electrical Engineering
GPA: 3.8 (GPA was 3.9 but I just came off an awful semester with diff eq and prob stats and got a 3.6 for the term, so there’s a downward trend I guess) for 51 credits taken at the institution (17 each semester)
EC: IEEE tutor, Created an education nonprofit with a couple of other students as well

High School GPA: 3.1 RIP
SAT: 2250
SAT Subject Tests: 800 Math II, 780 Physics
ACT: 34
AP tests: Took 9, passed all of them with 4 5s, 3 4s, and 2 3s

Chance me pls

I think you have a really high chance of being accepted. You have a great ACT score and high GPA even if you had one semester with a 3.6. Good luck!!

Hey All,
Like everyone else, I’m just trying to see what my chances of transferring are. Trying to transfer in for my Sophomore year.
Current College: Colorado State University (CSU)
Major: Psychology/Sociology Double Major
GPA: 4.0 (Took one class the summer before college at my local community college. Got an A in the class, guessing I have to send that transcript separately even though CSU has it? After my second semester, I’ll have 37 credits from CSU and my CC, as well as an additional 33 credits from my IB diploma. Doubt Vandy would take my IB Diploma credits though.)
EC: Head Debate Coach at local high school, Pre-Law Club, freelance tutor, Founder of CSU Speech and Debate Union, Psychology Research Assistant
HS GPA: 3.8ish (I forget the exact number, lul)
ACT: 32

Hi everyone! I applied as a transfer last year from University of Florida and was accepted and I have just finished my first semester at Vanderbilt! If anyone has any specific questions or thoughts about the transition process/stats/etc., please feel free to reply to this comment or send me a private message!!

Also, I will say that I got an 1800 on my SAT in high school and was accepted to Vanderbilt as a transfer this year. SAT/ACT is a predictor of “how well you will do in college”, but as a transfer the college GPA is WAYYYYY more highly considered than your SAT/ACT. Again, my scores were low and I was accepted as I had a 4.0 at UF.

For any current freshman applying, are you getting letters of rec from college professors or using high school letters of rec?

@vandy2019 Hey, I have a few questions:

  1. How do you like Nashville?
2.How was transferring credits-did most transfer?
3.Compared to UF, how are the classes? are they harder, are professors better? also I have heard of Vanderbilt grade deflation, is this true?
