Vanderbilt Transfer Thread [Fall 2017]

@somehmonggirl I think that’s a splendid idea.

I feel like “chance me” thing is kind of a thing to just make you feel better lol. Everyone has similar stats, and it’s really up to the admission officer to decide whether ur a fit or not…

@inordie Agreed, (though I’m guilty of it lol). One of the biggest components that we don’t get to see in the "chance mes are the essays, which play a HUGE role in admissions so chance mes aren’t really gonna be that accurate. The only time they are helpful is when a person really is not familiar with the institution and is overestimating or underestimating the type of candidates the school is looking for.

Transfer admissions are a fickle thing. Unfortunately a lot of falls down to luck(at least, we perceive it as luck, but in truth our decisions are based upon what the adcoms believe would best fit the sophomore and junior classes.).

I agree with @somehmonggirl . For better of for worse, we can pay it forward by posting our decisions as soon as they come out.

This is especially true in transfer process. We don’t have counselors and pre-college centers to go to like in high school, but I agree that we should stay away from the whole chance me thing at this point

And this is College Confidential after all. Some of the people most likely to be accepted yet worrying the most

One up to the “chance me” idea. It’s why I haven’t personally asked for one- nothing wrong at all with doing so. Everyone needs reassurance every now and then, and being “chanced” helps for some people. I’m in the category of thinking that reads “it’s all a crapshoot, what you expect won’t happen and vice versa.”

My last rodeo with admissions taught me not to bid too many expectations in this game.

@newtmon Agreed, I definitely feel like CC represents some of the best candidates with overqualified stats who worry about nothing lol. I want to believe that successful transfer applicants (most of whom are not represented here on CC in terms of numbers) don’t have stats on steroids

I wish colleges would release the average stats of people who applied to transfer to them. Then we could compare to average states on this forum which would be fun.

Here’s a form that I think we could use as we get decisions:
Decision:

Gender:
State:
Current College:
Credits:
Major:
HS GPA:
ACT/SAT:
College GPA:
EC: Name of club (type of club) Position, # semesters
LOR and Essays: (Excellent/Strong/Average)

The first application decision for Vanderbilt transfer this year was April x, my decision came in the x wave.

Also if you’d like to make a side note at the bottom of other decisions you’ve gotten if you have them that might help future students with comparing schools

when I transfer Imma make a website that can create comprehensive stats for every year acceptance lol.

YAAS. PLEASE DO THIS. I REMEBER THE DIFFCULTY IN THE LAST FEW YEARS OF HAVING TO WRITE DOWN PEOPLES CC NAMES WHO GOT REJECTED/ACCEPTED THEN LOOKING BACK IN BEGGINING OF FORUM FOR THEIR STATS. EVERYBODY DO THIS FOR THE GRAM

PS: also put wether your a rising sophomore or junior and major ( @somehmonggirl can you edit your post to include this?)

I edited it to include credits so that people can determine what the person would be entering in as!

Good looks. I would say we should make a google docs for everybody to put this info in one place for future transfers, but nobody wants to share their emails with strangers lol

,

edited it to have major as well lol

ok last edit i don’t think i forgot anything now but i added act and sat

Cool, I’m guesing a lot of people who are lucky enough to get accepted will forget to follow format in their adrenaline rush of excitment

Maybe, but hopefully they’ll make the proper post after. My brain almost explodes every time I try to get information from past threads

Yes lol, maybe there is a better way to do it. Should we make a thread just for decisions and focus this one on discussions+decisions? one could post decisions in both, but the other one wouldn’t feature anything but decisions. good idea? we could even ask a mod to delete posts if somebody doesn’t follow code
