@aftfl12 NYU is a good school and you’ve done well there. I’d say you have a very good chance of getting in. @NotAMathlete Could you post more about your college rank and courseload and your ECs. A 3.96 and a 2250 is really good, but if you want a fair guess of your chances you need to say a little more about your stats.
I’m applying to transfer as an incoming jr. Will they give much thought to my ACT? Everything else is great I just have a ridiculously low ACT.
anyone else have trouble logging into MyAppVU?
@somehmonggirl I don’t have issues logging into myappvu now but when I created my own account using myappvu I had some issues with it, and I had to use a 2nd email address to actually create the account.
@watermychances well mine was working for a while but now it just refreshes the page every time i try to log in. I never got an email to make my account but I also had my account from last year already… And it gives me an error message when I try to reset my password. I emailed my admissions counselor but he’s really really bad at replying to emails.
update: i remade my entire account with the same email and when i logged in afterwards my account was exactly the same, with the materials being checked as received . maybe they purged old accounts?
I also had problem with it. If anything I recommend emailing the MyAppVU people. They were able to resolve my problem fairly quickly.
Any chance we get decisions back during the first week of April?
@sgallagher23 Doubt it. Last year first wave decisions came out around April 13, so at the earliest around then. They updated portals friday and sent emails the following monday’s and continued that pattern well into mid May
Hey y’all, I am a second semester freshman at a small school in New Orleans looking to transfer. I was pretty excited to read on Vanderbilt’s website’s transfer page that they are looking for a B+ to an A- college GPA for their transfers. I worked hard last semester to get a 3.4 and now I am working even harder this semester to do better. I have the GPA they claim to be looking for on the website so I decided I was going to apply. I just checked out some of the stats of the kids on here getting denied, all of whom seem to have better GPA’s than me, and now I am wondering if it’s even worth applying. I had a 3.0 in high school and 1720 combined SAT. I feel like I got my stuff together since then and now I’m looking to go to a better school. I play baseball for my college and work two jobs (one of which is at a bar so I do not know if I should share that on my app). I also had a minor alcohol infraction early in the year that resulted in just a warning but stays on my school conduct record for a while. Any thoughts? I am really busy with school, baseball, and work so I do not want to waste my time if I have no chance. I cannot find anyone from this year or past accepted with similar stats to me. I do not understand why they say, “Typically, admitted transfer students have a GPA of a B+/A- or higher,” yet they’re turning down kids with 3.8’s.
@jwin98 I believe on the Vandy website they say something about looking for students with a 3.5gpa+, so you are a little on the low range. From what I have gathered, Vandy really looks at your college success more than your HS stats. You are doing well in college, hopefully you can keep it up. That being said, I think depending on how you’re doing this semester you should definitely go for it. What I mean is, if you have over a 3.4 on your midterm report you should apply, if you have a 3.4 or under I don’t think it’s worth it. Going back over the college confidential thread from last year, very few people w/ 3.8s or higher got rejected. That being said, GPA isn’t the only thing. The fact that you do a lot outside of school matters. Just so you know, the priority deadline for Vanderbilt admissions is March 15th (next week), so if you haven’t started the application or essays you are really behind. Good luck!
@jwin98 You also have to consider the fact that your a freshman. Since you only have 1 semester down your HS stats will still be weighed heavily. Its always good to apply because you really never know what can happen. But if I were you(and I was in some capacity a year ago) I would keep working and prepare for a junior transfer.
I agree, your application can be much stronger next year but it doesn’t hurt to apply this year as well
Anyone care to chance me? I also applied to Vandy ED2 during high school and was denied.

Vanderbilt is my ultimate dream school!
@Sarangatang I think you have a really good shot. All your stats are really good and your ECs are really good as well. What type of classes did you take 1st semester and what are you taking second semester? I believe vandy highly valued college performance so if you’re getting that gpa in your required bio/Chem/calc series I think you should be practically a lock to get in.
@watermychances I took intro bio, intro chem, intro psych, and biological anthropology and all the associated labs first semester. I’m in Bio 2 and Chem 2 this semester but am also taking sociology and an intensive writing course. I’m just kinda worried bout the lower class rank in high school, as I heard for prospective sophomore transfers the high school record is still considered rather greatly. Thanks!
@Sarangatang no way it’ll be a problem. my act was 30 and hs gpa 3.2 and i applied last year for sophomore transfer and got waitlisted despite my not so stellar performance in hs. TBH i will be very surprised if you don’t get in…
Hey guys! I’m applying as a junior into Vandy. Hopefully I can get in, its my number one choice! I was wondering for anyone else applying as a junior transfer, are you submitting in your ECs from high school? They probably won’t weight it heavily, and since my ecs in high school really aren’t all that impressive I’m thinking about not listing them.
Also can anyone chance me? I usually don’t ask that on here but Vandy is my top choice and I’d love to get feedback
Bengali-American
HS GPA: 3.3-This was due to a lot of family and personal troubles.
ECs: Not that much, just some volunteering.
SAT: 1980
ACT: 28
College GPA: 3.8 (I’m currently a sophomore).
ECs: -Mock Trial,- College Newspaper, College Activities Board, College Residential Education Department, Deans List, Political Club
Got 2 really amazing recs from Professors.
I’m pretty good at writing, so my essays are (hopefully) great.
Thanks in advance!
@Mastodon97 The dean’s list isn’t an EC, but congrats on making it. If you’re applying as an incoming junior your HS stats prolly won’t even be looked at. Your college stats seem really good, a 3.8 through a year and a half is really good depending on the classes you’ve taken and what your major is, and I’d say your ECs are pretty strong. I’d say you have a pretty good shot at admission.
