Vanderbilt Transfer Thread [Fall 2018]

Hey y’all. Hope you’re all doing well. Thought I’d start this early.

For posterity:

Current college: Unranked 4-year institution
Applying as: Rising Sophomore
Major: Biology (CAS)

High School GPA: ~3.5 (UW)

ACT Scores: 33

College GPA: 4.0 GPA (30 credits)

Hooks: First Generation, Minority, Consecutive Dean’s List, not much else.

US/Intl: US

ECs: -Currently own and run a federally recognized nonprofit.
-Work with local underserved population with citizenship paperwork; lead and advised newly arrived youth.
-Have a simulated portfolio where I do amateur investment (surprisingly) making profit.
-Do free chemistry tutoring.

Good luck to everybody!

Hey, everyone! I am a member of the most recent Vandy transfer class, so if you have any questions about the process, feel free to shoot me a message or tag me in a question on this board.

@transferdore17 Hey! Curious, how are my stats so far? What were your stats when you applied to Vandy?

Thank you so much!

@AwakenMyLove Your stats look solid for sure. I like your chances, especially with the first-generation hook.

My stats:

Former college: Top 40 LAC
Applied as: Sophomore
Major: Human and Organizational Development

High School GPA: 3.2 (UW)
Note: I went to a very rigorous private high school; average GPA of students who got into Vandy as freshmen from my school was something around 3.4 or 3.5 versus Vandy’s overall number of 3.8

ACT Score: 32

College GPA: ~3.8

Hooks: I made Dean’s List for both of the semesters I spent at my former college, but that’s about it

US/Intl: US

ECs:
-I helped run a student social business investment fund
-Played club rugby and intramural floor hockey
-Was a member of the school’s improv group
-Member of the investment club
-Worked on social business research

@transferdore17 Thanks so much for getting back to me! Your comments and stats reassure me lol. Though I’m definitely not expecting anything, I’m still anxious to see how this admissions cycle goes.

Again, thank you!

@AwakenMyLove You’re welcome. People helped me as I went through the process, so I’m just paying it forward, you know?

Hi! I am also planning on transferring as well.

Here are my stats:

Current college: Ohio State University
Applying as: Currently a freshman
Major: Biology

High School GPA: 4.0

ACT Scores: 31

College GPA: Currently not so good. It is my first semester at college and the transition has been rough, however my high school GPA indicates that I have the aptitude. I am hoping for my GPA to be around 3.3 around the application date.

Hooks: Not much, maybe an alumni connection or two. I did apply as a senior in high school, and after I got denied I emailed my admissions counselor and thanked her for her time and dedication. I also told her I am planning on transferring, so while it may not seem like a hook, I believe that I have put a bit of personality to my application.

US/Intl: US

ECs:
(High school ECs were pretty good, slightly above average I’d say but not too over the top)
-Libertarian club member/board member
-Future Health Professionals Learning Community (application based)
-Ohio Welcome Leader (move-in crew/volunteer group and application based)
-Residence Hall Programming Board (volunteer committee member)
-As for second semester goes, I plan on joining a few more clubs and becoming more involved. ECs as of now are very tentative

Reason:
I love Vanderbilt so much, especially when it comes to their mission, students, campus, and opportunities. Transferring is a goal of mine, and I think that will show in my application.

Otherwise, I’d love to get to know the other transfers. Insight from successful transfers would help immensely as well!

Hey guys! Not a prospective transfer (anymore) but I wanted to post this in case it helps anyone!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/vanderbilt-university/1980131-vanderbilt-transfer-decisions-fall-2017-p1.html

Additionally, in the past Vandy transfer threads there is valuable info! Simply look at my threads made to find the 2017 version. Also, quick facts so you don’t have to sift through the thread later on:

  1. First decision last year 4/18
  2. No order to decisions, random waves
  3. A good amount waitlisted last year, a fair amount taken off waitlist
  4. Waitlist closed around August 10th this year
  5. Allegedly people were taken off the waitlist as late as August 8th-9th
  6. Plenty of people still got accepted or waitlisted beyond the first wave

After being waitlisted twice to Vandy, I’m happily at my state flagship! But, as I spent pretty much two school years obsessed with this process I don’t mind answering logistical questions that I wished other people could’ve answered for me the past two years.

GOOD LUCK!

Chances with a 4.0 HS GPA, 1550 SAT, and a 4.0 at a top 2-3 public to transfer in as a sophomore?

Waitlisted last year as a hs senior

@vincenty99 If you have an excellent EC list to go along with those stats, I like your chances.

Hey, so I’ve never actually posted before so bear with me.

Gender: Female
State: NJ
Current college: Northeastern
Applying as: rising sophomore
Major: Political Science

High School GPA: 3.67 or 3.7, I think

SAT Scores: 2270

College GPA: ~3.8
Credits: 44 (with AP)

Hooks: Dual citizen, religious minority, Dean’s List, not much really

ECs: pretty good high school extracurriculars (some leadership, some awards, mostly clubs and volunteering); currently in political science association, college Democrats, Relay for Life, film enthusiasts’ club, looking to get a job for next semester

Let me know what you think! I really love Vanderbilt (attended a summer program during high school but got rejected when I applied ED senior year).

Also, IB Diploma recipient. Forgot about that.

I’ll get in on this too:

Stats:
Intended major: Economics
Current college: Top 50 private university
College GPA: 4.0 so far (2 A+'s), will have 36 credits after freshman year
HS GPA: W ~3.4 weakest part of application
ACT: 31
ECs: Lots of business/economics clubs in college, no leadership positions though. A few computer clubs. Teaching myself German and Italian (don’t know if I can post this in the app though).
LOR: Will submit two, both will be very good, both will be from professors I had this past semester.

Stats:
Intended major: Computer Science
Current college: John Jay College of Criminal Justice
College GPA: 3.6
HS GPA: idk like a 2.0
SAT: 1070
ECs: Computer Science Society, I teach computer science to middle schoolers.
LOR: 1 from Physics Professor, 1 from Public Speaking Professor, maybe 1 more from Computer Science Professor

Heres my stats:
Currently: Freshman at a Big 10 Business School 3.6 GPA
ECs: Undergraduate Consulting Club, Team Lead at Student-led Social Consulting Group, Event Coordinator at the Super Bowl.

I know my GPA is a bit low. I struggled with a TA that did not show up to office hours, so I joined Academic Affairs Committee and working now to create midterm instructor reviews.

High School
GPA: 4.3 (weighted) 3.98 (unweighted)
SAT/ACT Scores: 33 (36E, 33M, 33R, 31S)
AP Scores: 5’s-Calc BC, Stats, US Gov. 3’s-Literature, Chem, Physics 1

I was looking at Economics at Vanderbilt as well as UPenn CAS and Northwestern. Let me know if you think I have a chance!

I’m a little confused on where college reports and mid year reports are supposed to be mailed. Does anyone have the exact address?

@transferdore17 what did you write your Vanderbilt specific essay on an extra curricular activity on if you don’t mind me asking?

@acceptancewoohoo I don’t mind at all; I’m here to help y’all out. I wrote my Vanderbilt-specific essay on the improv group I was a part of at my old college. In particular, I talked about how much improv has meant to me, and how it’s made me a better public speaker. My advice to you is to find an extracurricular you’re involved in at your current school and talk about why it means a lot to you.

Hey guys! What do you think my chances of getting in are?

My stats:
Current College: Clemson University
Applying as: Rising Sophomore
Intended Major: Chemistry

High School GPA: 3.815 UW, 4.908 W (I attended my state’s Governor’s School for Science and Math, so I’ve taken some above-AP courses)
College GPA: 4.0
ACT Score: 34
Credits: 53 by end of this year

Hooks: First generation, Minority, Dean’s List

ECs: Did 6 weeks of research in an organic chemistry lab over the summer before senior year won 2nd place oral Chemistry presentation at the SC Junior Academy of Science in March, president of a school club in senior year, 166 hours of community service over junior and senior year

Would really appreciate some feedback on this, I’m dying to go to Vandy next year.
Thanks guys.
