Still didnt hear anything yet. DEAD
Another day… no decision. For those that heard back, did it appear on the front page of the portal?
@transferdore17 hey I have been accepted and was wondering if you could tell me a bit about how the transfer process went for you?
@ijustwannatransfer1234 yeah, right when you sign in to MyAppVU the decision will already be there
Just some advice to future applicants looking at this thread, I would recommend focusing your essays on your involvement in your current campus community.
Vanderbilt seems to really value fostering a tight knit university community, as evidenced by several of their admissions blog posts and the fact that they require essentially every student to live on campus. In addition, their acceptance letter mentions that the decision was based on academic ability and “your ability to contribute to our campus community”.
I chose to focus my supplemental essay (elaborate on an extracurricular) on my research experience, in particular how it introduced me to an intellectually diverse community of scholars and how I planned to do the same at Vanderbilt (by discussing specific programs and ongoing research at Vandy I was interested in). Obviously I can’t say for sure, but I think the essay played a big part in my success. As a transfer especially I think the essay is one of the most important components of your application, and really can make all the difference.
Best of luck to everyone still waiting or on the waitlist. If you don’t get in this year don’t give up, the hard work will pay off even if it doesn’t seem that way now.
@Neurophile where did you find the sources for the research that they are hosting at the moment?
@Vandycomeback I went on their website, they have a tab for research. Then you can browse based on discipline and school. If you go to the web page for the major you are interested in they will also have information on research and how undergrads can get involved.
anyone know when/where we get the transfer credit report
@transferguy163 I’ve emailed them about it, but from what I’ve read it seems that our courses will be evaluated at a later date. It says that they need syllabi for classes to be credited and the process can take up to 30 days. Check this link registrar.vanderbilt.edu/transfer-credit.php
@mdeca12 I assume that we have to accept our offer of admission and pay the deposit before we can get a YES account, correct?
@LuckMan123 I haven’t gotten a response, but from reading past threads yeah it looks like that. Apparently they’re not too stringent with transferring credits.
Hi guys! Congrats to those who got accepted, you deserve it! I wanna ask when will be the deadline for you guys to deposit?
@deliciousSteak We have until May 10th to make a deposit. I’m in a little bit of bind because I’m still waiting on a couple schools and I doubt they’ll release decisions by then. Does anyone have any recommendations on what to do? Should I email Vandy asking for an exstension or ask the other schools for an expediated decision?
@peaceouttide YOOOOO that’s so cool, I just looked and my acceptance letter has what seems like an excerpt from my essay in it
For those who are waitlisted, I have a quick question guys. Is it a good idea to submit another letter of recommendation if it adds a new perspective. I mean so far I’ve submitted recommendations from my professors through the common app. I got a new one from my previous employer(last summer internship)
@Neurophile I think you should call, from what I’ve read on the past date they don’t offer extensions because they base how many offers they give to the next wave based on how many claimed their spot. If I recall correctly, someone from the past year’s thread said that you would risk “losing your spot” if you don’t claim it. I’m in the same scenario, but I will pay it, just holistically analyze your Vanderbilt decision and see if its worth it. Again, no harm in calling!
@TheMadStork yeah I have a similar situation. Most of my other college decisions come out after May 10th.
@Neurophile, thank you for your thoughtful and useful tip in reply #904.
I have a question perhaps you, or another poster, could (try to?) answer: Can a transfer student apply to Vandy first as an incoming soph, and if not admitted, try and apply again as an incoming junior? (If this question has been answered elsewhere, pls pardon me, but I couldn’t find it).
@USCWolverine Absolutely, in fact this is my second time applying for transfer admissions (not to Vanderbilt but to another school). Someone told me your chances for admission are slim the second time, but I’m not sure I believe them. While most schools do take less junior transfers, if you did less than stellar in high school but have performed well in college, there will be much less weight placed on your high school performance as a rising junior than as a rising sophomore.
@AGoodFloridian @Neurophile I have a quick question guys. I got waitlisted so I was thinking if it s agood idea to submit another letter of recommendation if it adds a new perspective. I mean so far I’ve submitted recommendations from my professors through the common app. I got a new one from my previous employer(last summer internship)
