Vanderbilt Transfer Thread

Thanks! yeah I heard the campus is beautiful too… I’m not sure if I am going Greek yet, to be honest I only have 2 years left and I need to get settled in first but possibly

Does anyone know how the cost of tuition works at Vanderbilt? Does anyone know if it’s per credit, or if the 36,000$~ per year is set for a certain number of credits? I hope I articulated that well enough.

My thing is, I know I’m going to be behind in terms of credits to graduate at my supposed graduation date. I want to know the maximum number of credits I can take without having to pay additional.

Never mind. I asked too soon.

Here’s the answer to my question (in case any of you were wondering also):

Overload/Underload
NORMAL COURSE LOAD
Each semester, regular tuition is charged on the basis of a normal course load of 12 to 18 semester hours. No more than 18 or fewer than 12 hours may be taken in any one semester without authorization of the Administrative Committee or the dean. (There is an extra charge for more than 18 hours at the current hourly rate.) Students permitted to take fewer than 12 hours are placed on probation, unless the light load is necessary because of outside employment or illness. During the summer session, there is no minimum course load. Summer loads exceeding 14 hours must be authorized by the dean.

From Vandy A&S website.

I am totally stoked about attending Vandy. There are only a few schools that will take me away from from Vanderbilt. Are there any other nontraditional students transferring into the class of 2011?

How many classes do you guys plan to take for Fall 2009? Is 5 the normal amount? I just want to graduate on time!.. By the way, what is everyones major?

12-18 is the normal. 15 would be a decent amount, but as transfers, more than likely, in my opinion, some of our courses are not going to convert. I think I’m going to have to take six every year until I graduate. :stuck_out_tongue: Or take summer school, which IDK how I’m going to do because I can’t afford it without aid.

I applied to CAS. I’m doing an English/Communication Studies double major.
And I applied for Mid-Sophomore status.

I was organizing all my class syllabuses and course descriptions to be turned in for review last night. I never thought I’d have to use those previous syllabuses ever again, but I’m really glad I saved them.

I am double majoring in communications and political science. I think I am only going to take 5 classes in the first semester regardless, because I dont know what the workload will be like…

Just received my official financial aid in the mail. In sociology class right now and I can’t concentrate. I’m turning in my matriculation deposit tomorrow.

You’re right, I might consider taking five only too. I really don’t want to be too overwhelmed either.

I’m a biology major, planning on applying to dental school in the future. Also, I would really like to minor in music, but I’m not sure how that’s going to work out… Depending on how many credits of mine will transfer, I suppose. We shall see! I’m very excited.

Jaimetransfer,
are you considering law school?

I wanted to go to law school for a VERY VERY long time… but this year I kind of changed my mind. For now, I think I am either going to get my PHD in political science or do something in the communication’s field. My uncle was V.P. of human relations at Paramount Pictures and now is V.P of human relations at CBS, and when I go there I just love the atmosphere that he works in… Basically, I don’t know!

Hey guys, i got my acceptance letter today in a big envelope enclosed with the letter, transfer enrollment sheet and a candidate’s reply form.
good luck to you all…

i was so nervous cuz i called they told me the decision has been made but would not tell me what it is…

Rejection brah

shuangshengzi,
I think there was another poster on this board who said, don’t misinterpret a non-answer or unwillingness on the part of the admissions committee to mean rejection. I agree.

I felt exactly like you did, got non-answers, transferred calls, answering machines, and was told to just wait. Good luck! :)

El_taco,
Good luck with the other great schools you do get into!

shuangshengzi, when I called Vandy they would not give me the decision over the phone which made me think i wasn’t in, but then I received my letter in the mail the next day. Don’t lose hope, its just that some regional reps are following the policy of not telling over the phone while other aren’t following it.

iansown and gmary, thank you guys for your kind word. i guess i’ll find out this week~

I wasn’t rejected Brah… not yet at least :D

el_taco: Your post made it sound like you were rejected. :)

Someone needs to create a Facebook group for Fall 2009 Vanderbilt Transfers. Now.

I talked to them on the phone today and they said I would have my decision thursday. I have to decide if I’m going to U of M friday, is there anyway I can postpone that?
