Vanderbilt Transfer Thread

My file was complete 3/1, decision letter postmarked 4/16.

I wonder what is the hold up.

Because my dad didn’t even know whether or not I’d be attending school this fall, he never filed my FAFSA. Do you think I can still file and get aid before I have to tell them I’m attending? I have no desire to pa 37k for tuition.

Early in my application process, I was told that the Financial Aid office has very strict deadlines, especially with their new expanded aid program. I think it’s always best to try and ask, but that is what they told me.

I called the financial aid office as soon as I got my letter of acceptance to ask about these questions.
At the time I only submitted my FAFSA and not the CSS.

I called and asked if this would hurt my chances of qualifying for aid. They said as long as I get it in soon it would be no problem at all…They didn’t seem like they were particularly overconcerned with deadlines. They are 100% need based blind. The extended aid program is replacing aid loans with scholarships.

Regarding financial aid-- I just got my financial packet in the mail and saw my numbers… RIDICULOUS financial support. I’m practically going to this school for free. Have hope.

anyone studying economics or philosophy?

I am hopping to enroll in Vandy’s Econ/History major! I am sooooooooo excited to get on campus and start taking classes!

Has anyone gotten their financial aid or housing application in the mail yet?

My FA was postmarked 4/22. Still no housing applications.

Update:

I was able to create my VUnetid online today. As for housing applications, they are available online once you have access to your VUnetid.

I have submitted my application I was wondering if anyone has their contract yet.

^^ What is this contract you speak of?

I filled out the housing app online a few days ago… I imagine it’ll be some time before we hear anything back regarding housing.

I just called admissions and a group of files (including mine) will be reviewed and decided tomorrow. They said I could call Monday to find out. Another LONG weekend!!

Good luck!

Aww man. I called today also and he told me a decision hasn’t been made and I should receive something very soon…

a letter, they said.

Is it true that Vanderbilt now requires ALL students to live on campus unless they have a really good reason why they shouldn’t have to (like older student, non-traditional, etc.)? I was deferred and hope to be accepted after I submit my spring grades, but if I do end up attending I will be moving to Nashville with my fiance and we were planning to rent an apartment together. Does the school have the right to force me to live on campus?

I think they would have the right to do whatever they want. They are a private institution. That being said I would look into graduate student/family housing. I know almost all private colleges that value a high percentage of students living on campus offer this form of housing, but yes from everything that I have been told from current students and the online chat sessions all undergraduate must live on campus with very few exceptions being given over the entire undergraduate community.

The problem with this might be that you two are not married so you want to call housing and ask them about the rules around family housing.

any English majors coming to Vandy with me this fall?

Me, hopefully!

Question:

How much are you bringing to or think will cover personal/book expenses before your financial aid comes in (if you got financial aid)? The FA papers say you should bring enough money for at least six weeks. I’m trying to figure out my budget.

The Cost of Attendance according to FA is papers is 57,650.

Break down:
Board 4,450
Books/supplies 1280
Fees 942
Freshman Experience fee 620 (As Transfers, do we pay for this too?)
Housing 8238
Personal 2176
Transcript fee 30
Transportation (UG Reg) 2282 (What is UG Reg and really, 2282??)
Tuition 37632

Total 57,650

Did anyone receive in excess of $45k in grants?
