edacious, my friend received over $54,000 in financial aid. I received $43,000, but I asked for reconsideration because they did not have my family’s tax information when they determined the award (only estimates from the FAFSA and PROFILE).

edacious: yes.

RPTrainor,
I’ll be declaring an English major.

You won’t pay the freshman experience fee as a transfer.

You don’t pay Vandy anything except tuition charges, fees, room & board charges. Books & supplies, personal, and transportation are all estimates of what you might have to pay for these things over the course of the year. You don’t pay those to Vandy - but you do get those things put into the budget that is used to award your financial aid.

Kelsmom,

Thank you for clearing this up.

Are they sending their decisions via e-mail?

yeah, thanks kelsmom, ive been trying to figure that out.

and wow, i certainly wish i had over 45k!!! geez, good for you guys.

bennyho, i believe they send most decisions through mail. Thats how i was notified.

I just got in!!..though, I think I’m going to Cornell next year… I’m planning on visiting next week to make sure

Rejected and brokenhearted…it’s not as if I have many options for a Neuroscience degree. I’m not single and I can’t uproot my family. I wonder if it’s because of my age?

I’m honestly sorry, btmartin. I wish you the best.

Thank you, edacious. I wish everyone the best of luck at Vandy and elsewhere. I may reapply next year.

btmartin97, im really sorry to hear about their decision. I definitely think you should reapply next year; do not give up your dream. Also, I really think it would be beneficial to contact the admissions office via telephone or a very polite letter and ask for reconsideration or at least why you were rejected? Even better, you could travel there (if convenient.) It surely cant hurt to show them how passionate you are about attending the university and pursuing your goals in neuroscience.

Have you ever read the book The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch? This is totally random, but its one of my favorites- he gets denied to Brown University but he contacts them and asks why and says how much he wants to go and they let him in. Even if it was a completely different university and a long time ago- it surely couldnt hurt. Good luck! I do wish you the very best.

bhud,
Thank you so much for your kind words. I haven’t thought about asking them to reconsider. I guess I just assumed decisions were final. Hmm…you’ve certainly given me food for thought. As far as going down there, I was planning to commute anyway. It’s only about 60 miles from where I live.

I haven’t read that book but it sounds great…I’ll check into it.

btmartin,
I’m really sorry to hear you didn’t get in. I’m probably too young to be giving you advice, but someone I look up to once told me, if the first path towards your goals doesn’t work out, find a new path; you can get there.

[Bachelor degrees in Neuroscience in Tennessee](http://www.universities.com/edu/Bachelor_degrees_in_Neuroscience_in_Tennessee.html)

I’m not too sure if you’ve seen that link, but besides Vanderbilt, there are two other colleges in Tennessee that offer a Neuroscience program. Sincerely good luck!

iansown,
Wisdom has no age, so thanks for the advice! The only problem with other schools is that I have a family that I can’t/won’t uproot. Unless a school is within driving distance it isn’t an option. The two other schools are in Memphis…5 hours away!

I just spoke with an admissions officer and, while she was not involved in making the decision, she thinks it is probably because I am non-traditional with a family. Apparently, there may be some concern as to my ability to juggle it all. I really have to laugh because I have been juggling far more than that for the last five years. College would actually be a reprieve!

I have left messages with the two officers involved in the decision and requested further information. There is an appeals process, so that may be an option. However, rarely are decisions overturned. We’ll see.

Many thanks to everyone for their kind words. Please let me give you all the same advice I have been giving my children. Get your education FIRST, before life walks in and responsibility becomes heavy. Do not let your emotions make your decisions…if you are committed to your goal (education) then complete it regardless of how much you love him/her, how fun it would be to get an apartment together, or how much you want to get naked with someone, etc., etc. Sorry to be so blunt but it’s amazing how emotions that are temporary can make life changes that are permanent.

Please say a prayer, send positive thoughts, etc. my way…if my family is the issue then that will not change anytime soon, not even for reapplication next year. Hopefully they will see the error of their ways! :O)

Hey everyone,
just got my Vandy bumper sticker, heh… Turned in my housing application as well. How much are you all putting in your Commodore card? Also, what are you doing for preparation? I still have 4 classes to go until my semester is over next week. Hopefully, I get all A’s.

Congrats to all that got in!

I applied as a freshman, and was rejected…cries haha, nah no tears were shed. I’m going to the local state university (University of RI) and plan to send out transfer apps. What I want to know is, after being rejected for freshman admission, does that mean they will reject me again for transfer? Also, when would be the best time to apply (I would like to apply for admission into the following year)…or just keep applying. Does applying more than once hurt chance? I don’t think it should… Will high school and SATS/ACTS still matter a whole lot? And FINALLY does anybody have the current transfer rate?

I’m IN!! I can’t believe it. They called me on the phone and told me I haven’t even recieved my letter yet.
I had a 2.7 HS GPA and a 26 ACT crazy
Is there a facebook group for transfers up yet?

Any new news?

:)

Go Vandy!!!
