Vanderbilt Transfer Thread

I’m looking to apply for next fall here, and I was wondering what everyone who was accepted and rejected GPA’s were…

^ aim for 3.5 and continue participating in e.c. And you’ll be fine!

Feline, what were your college stats?

I am a prospective transfer who will be applying for fall '10 next winter. I will probably have around a 3.5 (depending on how they recalculate for ‘W’ grades, either a 3.43 or a 3.68 GPA, with 70ish credits), a moderate amount of EC’s (I’ll be working on those this year), and a fairly poor HS record; I am also a strong writer and participate regularly in scholarly activities (conferences, journal submissions, etc.).

I am a math/philosophy/neuroscience major at my current institution. Would my chances be best if I applied as a philosophy major, a math major, or a philosophy/math major? (Neuroscience majors are approached with higher expectations, it seems.) Thanks!

Also, what are my chances at Vandy? My first choice is U of Michigan; anyone admitted to UM with similar stats? Willing to chance me/share? Thanks!! :)

Phenomenologist,

Best advice would be to get the best grades you can, work hard on your essays, and get some good recommendations. Chances don’t mean much from any of us because some people have gotten in with less than 3.5, while others have gotten rejected with higher. Just work to turn in the best application possible. Good luck!

Great, thanks! I suppose the moderate subjectivity with which admissions approaches these matters makes it a good thing that I’ll be applying 5-6 schools, eh?

Congrats to all who were admitted to Vandy, btw! Have fun in Nashville!

I called yesterday and found out I was accepted, I haven’t gotten my letter though. If you haven’t heard back I would call. They were very helpful.

Heyy, I received an e-mail today about a matriculation deadline has passed and I’m wondering does that mean I’m accepted and if anyone else has received the same e-mail that was eithier deferred for spring grades and accepted or accepted and haven’t sent in their deposit. ? Thanks!

I was accepted today! I called and found out! Whoo-hoo!!!
: D!!! Thank you Lord, God is my savior, I will trust in him.

I just sent in the form letting them know that I will not be attending Vanderbilt in the fall… hopefully this opens up a spot for one of you! Good luck guys and for those matriculating, have fun at Vandy! :)

I called them today and the woman I spoke to refused to tell me anything about my decision. She just said, “You will be receiving something in the mail, OK?” I called last week, too, and they told me a decision would be made by Friday and I would get something by Tuesday. I’m assuming I didn’t get in, which sucks, but what sucks even more is the fact that they would rather cop out than just be honest and tell me to my face (or ear, rather) instead of in an impersonal, generic rejection letter. Am I wrong for thinking this?

did you just talk to someone in the admissions department or your admissions counselor? only your admissions counselor is supposedly aloud to tell you over the phone. They did send my admissions letter to the wrong address… instead of just taking three or four days I didn’t get mine till 10 or so days after they told me I should get something in the mail. I did get my decision over the phone but I had to wait till the following day to hear it from my admissions counselor.

Well, I was going to ask to speak with my counselor, but the woman asked for my last name, looked something up, and again said “Hmm…you will be receiving something” so I figured she was hinting that it wasn’t good news and she didn’t want to be the one to tell me. =/

I would ask your admissions counselor. If you didn’t get in…at least you can know you didn’t and don’t have to keep wondering. If you did get in…you can be excited about the great news.

If it makes you feel better, when I called the woman was very monotone and didn’t seem happy when she looked mine up either. She asked for my name too…looked something up and said something like “Well…they have made a decision but I can not tell you over the phone. You should be getting something shortly or call your admissions counselor.”

Usually when I call they are very upbeat…this woman was not and I honestly thought I had been rejected. Did you get deferred for spring grades?

Yes, I sent the transcript several weeks ago. Maybe we spoke to the same woman? Haha

Thanks for giving me a little hope =)

Hmm…so Im a tad anxious about all the materials vanderbilt needs from me. I believe I’ve done everything they’ve asked for. Can anyone list all the things we need to submit?
I already done: my housing app, sent in final transcripts/AP scores, registered for classes, and sent in two other forms I got via mail.
Is there really anything else I need?
And when do we hear back from housing?

Does Vanderbilt accept community college transfers?

^yeah, I got in from a cc

OrsonSwells i got in from a Community college.

Phenomenologist i got in U of M with a 3.5 gpa and i applied as a math major. Plus that all my transcript shows, I did no community service or anything extra like sports so ya hope this helps. apply as a math major, but it depends on the math classes you have taken and your grades for those math classes.
