Vanderbilt University chances?

I submitted my app for Vanderbilt today and I’m feeling pretty awful about my chances so I wanna see what other, impartial people think.

Cum GPA: 3.6 unweighted

ACT: C 32, E 36, R 34, M 28, S 31

Courseload: pretty challenging, all Honors and AP classes since 7th grade

APs: Lang 5, Bio 4, Calc BC 3/4 subscore, World 3; didn’t send any in though

Senior year courses: AP Music Theory, AP Computer Science, AP Psychology, AP U.S. Gov, AP Macroecon, AP Lit, band
all A’s first semester, 100 average

Activities I listed on Common App: Debate, French Honor Society, Varsity Softball, Band, engineering mechatronics paid internship at TSU over summer
also did Model UN but only for a year, was briefly in Science National Honor Society

Essays: I’m pretty sure my essay was good, but nothing extraordinary. I wrote about the time I performed one of my songs at the Bluebird Cafe, and how it shaped my character, gave me confidence, reassured me, etc. activity supplement was ok, about my internship

Recs: rec from my AP Calc BC teacher and my AP Bio teacher, both of them really love me and I did well in the classes so the recs should be really good. counselor rec is probably generic, since my counselor is new this year.

Personal Stats:
State: I’m from Nashville, TN.
Race/Gender: African American, female.
School type: Public magnet, nationally ranked
Income bracket: parents split, >$100,000 b/w the both of them
Financial Aid: yeah, I’m applying for it. don’t think I’ll get much

I applied regular decision to the school of engineering as a computer science major.

Strengths: none I can think of
Weaknesses: GPA and ACT way below average, barely any ECs/leadership positions, from TN, I’m not an extraordinary student by any means

Clearly I’m expecting a rejection, but I have seen people get accepted to the school of engineering C/O 2019 with the same GPA and ACT as me so I’m thinking nothing is set in stone.

URM with 32 = easy

what is URM??

Underrepresented minority.

You definitely have a chance, though Vanderbilt really does like to see leadership as far as I can tell. Good luck, hope to see you on campus next year!

Good chance with the underrepresented group thing. Your ACTs are decent. Just make your essays good. Good luck!!!

I’m fairly certain I know what school you go to (I go to the school that beat Maryville btw) and the Vandy adcoms should take that into account. However, since there are so many highly qualified applicants from your school, they might hold your GPA against you.

H-F or MLK?

MLK

:expressionless: I guessed wrong then, but it’s pretty much the same in college apps

.

Rereading my post, I can totally see how it could be taken negatively. I meant to say that H-F and MLK are roughly the same in course rigor and competition.
