Vanderbilt University Early Decision for Fall 2023 Admission

Vanderbilt doesn’t have early action afaik. But yes, these are ED decisions.

ED only. I don’t think they have EA? RD is probably late March.

Thank you! I honestly don’t know what went wrong with my application. Maybe it was my race? Maybe the applicant pool was just that competitive? I hope I will still be able to keep my head up for regular decisions.

There are just so so many factors (essays, recs etc. and even smaller, out-of-control things like race, geographical residence or even the AO’s mood lol). You can never know what worked against you, but you can definitely set yourself up for success in RD by detaching yourself/trying to move on from this decision.

Thanks for posting your stats. Much better than my daughter’s. Such craziness that you didn’t get in . Have a different set of eyes look at your essays before the next round. Another t20 school will scoop you up.

those really special First-Gen Legacy candidates? :joy:  :joy:

But seriously I don’t know. It’s more than stats for sure (but high stats never hurt).

Varsity xc and track (4 yrs)
President of FFA
Lead director of weekly school interview series

Just a little bit frustrating.

daughter DEFERRED.
public school, no hooks. no class rank.
1530 SAT (submitted). 4.6 weighted GPA. only 3 AP’s Junior year and 3 more now, but that’s typical at her school.
soccer captain. leadership in some clubs, class rep. but no outstanding EC’s, I guess.
we thought good letters because everyone loves her but who really knows how well they were written? we didn’t see them.

2 kids from her school got in, both lower stats. one is ROTC, though, and has some diversity I guess.

who knows what made the difference?

sucks to have to do more applications and visits though.

At this rate the state flagships will become stronger schools since accepting the high stat students. And in the long run, prob will be better endowed.

How many people get deferred? I heard that it is a small group for Vanderbilt, but places like Harvard defer the majority of early kids I think.

wait and see how the state flagships accept this year. The Univ. Calfornia’s were abysmal last year. Of course no one has high stats when they are test blind? My twins23 (CA residents, both high stats students) didn’t apply to UCs at all but 4 other state flagships are on their lists. But you’re right that the talent is getting more spread out in recent years.

Unfortunately it’s no longer only about working hard, so much weight is now placed on other things you can’t control like hooks ie did parents have college degrees, do parents have a job, other stuff in current lawsuits related…etc.

So true. I have tried to impress upon mine that there are things they can control and things they can’t, and to focus on the things they can.
