Vanderbilt University Fall 2011 Transfer Thread

The only downside of Vandy for me is that I really don’t care about Greek life. I really can’t afford it, and even if I could I think I’d rather spend that money of going out to the bars and such since I’m 21 lol. I’m not too worried about being bored socially if I get in because my best friend goes to Belmont, but it would still be nice to be able to make a lot of new friends at Vandy even if I didn’t have a whole lot of interest in fraternities.

I’m at Stony Brook University right now and Greek Life isn’t really a big thing there and I don’t think greek life is something for me, so I hope I’m not alone!

I can certainly understand the appeal of Greek life, but it’s not really my thing…at least in my experience at my current school. It’s almost like the guys here try to live up to the stereotype of being rude and obnoxious, so it left a bad taste in my mouth. I’m sure there are better experiences elsewhere, and I wouldn’t completely rule it out at Vandy, but I’m not sure if I’d be willing to make the financial or time commitment because there’s other things I’d rather do. So no allisone92, I’m sure you won’t be alone if you chose not to rush.

Hey everybody I’m new here but I have a random question.

OK, so, do you guys think that physically visiting the campus when you live far away (13 hours) gives you a little advantage when the admissions counselors are evaluating your file?? You know, like maybe they think “Hey, this kid must really want to be here if he drove 13 hours”??

And yes, this is not a hypothetical question as I really did visit cause I really do want to go LOL.

I’m sure it doesn’t hurt as putting a face to an application can be a good thing, but at the end of the day it’s going to come down to the strength of everything in your application.

I’m not really for or against Greek Life, but I really want to see what Southern Greek Life is like. I go to a school in the northeast where there are no Frats recognized by the school. So, the change would be interesting. Hopefully good, but who knows.

Hopefully tomorrow we’ll all know.

Finding out tomorrow would be ideal.

Not sure why I keep checking this thread for letter updates given that it’s a Sunday and the mail doesn’t come today lol.

i know @SMH i keep doing the same thing! i hope we all have happy letters waiting for us when we open our mailboxes tomorrow!

I’m at DePaul in Chicago

I keep checking to see today, too… I can only imagine how many times I’ll be checking tomorrow!

i know i stupidly checked my mail today to see even though mail doesnt even come on sundays! this is torture

How many of you have applied to Vandy in the past, either as an incoming freshman or transfer?

Well, I’m probably going to invest in an iphone tomorrow, so not I’ll be able to stay updated on this thread even on the go haha. In all seriousness, this has been a great community and resource and it has made it a lot easier to go through the process with people that understand exactly what I’m feeling. I’ve definitely become addicted to checking this site the last few weeks lol

i know and i do have an iphone which makes it all too easy to obsessively check this thread as if ill find out whether i got in or not any sooner! @chicagobears i have not applied to vandy before

haha I agree. I never used college confidential in high school and I really wish I did because it would have stopped me from the school I picked originally. I’ve ruled out out so many schools because of seeing negative things on this website and other online review sites, but I keep hearing nothing but good things about vandy so I’m really hoping to get in :)

^Really? NYU is a great school and has a pretty good rep on CC. I wish I had visited CC during my freshman year of HS. I would have gotten more involved on campus and taken a more challenging course load. That said, hopefully Vandy can relieve me of my regrets :)

Yeah. If I had used this site earlier, I would never have transferred to my current school.

Likewise to everything. I never checked CC my senior year of HS, but now I check it probably a little to much haha. I really hope at least someone on here finds out tomorrow!

It’s a really great school and the academics and oppertunities here are great. All of my friends have cool internships and are really carreer driven. That being said, I’m not a really big fan of the school because kids are very focused in their work/internships and a lot of the students ‘loose themselves’ in the city and don’t really connect within the school. NYU Is composed of a bunch of mini communities, but I am just looking for more unity, and a school with people who actually care about their peers
