Vanderbilt University Fall 2011 Transfer Thread

what do i say to my counselor in order to ask when my decision will be mailed? im so anxious I just want to know!

Not to be a downer, but don’t those of us in the second, third, and other batches besides the first have a lower chance of admission, since it’s rolling?

I wouldn’t necessarily agree with that. It seems that just about everyone who submitted their application in January/early February has received their decisions, so if you submitted the app around he time of the deadline you’re likely in this next batch. Also, there’s a wide range of stats on those who have been accepted, so there’s really no cookie cutter applicant that they’re looking for in my opinion. There’s still a lot of people who have very, very good stats who are waiting and have a great shot at getting in.

And lax, when I’ve contacted my counselor I just asked about the status of my application and for a timeframe for when I could expect a decision.

Just to let you know my app was turned in on March 1st but wasn’t complete till the 31st and I was in the first batch.

Hmm…my situation is very similar yours dgibbon. So I guess there is some luck to the process because my decision is in this second batch.

And congrats on your acceptance!

SMH thank you so much for your help. I just emailed my counselor fingers crossed.My decision is coming soon. I wouldnt be surprised with a rejection though since I feel like everyone this year is so qualified. best of luck to all!

No problem Lax. And yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised if I were accepted, waitlisted, or rejected. It’s hard to get a read on things but at least it’ll be over soon.

@SMH: I applied and completed my app in Jan. and I still haven’t heard anything…It makes me extremely nervous because I feel like I’m one of the only ones…

I’m sure you’ll find out soon if that’s the case. Have you spoken to your counselor at all?

Here’s what my counselor had to say if this helps anyone:

I know there are deadlines approaching, but the transfer committee has not released a decision for your file just yet. They meet once a week to review files and, if further information is needed, they may wait until they receive items from schools and/or students. Not all letters were mailed out because of the length of the committee time needed to review all of our transfer applicants.

Due to our volume of transfer applicants and the discussions that have taken up the transfer committee’s time over the past few weeks, I do not know when exactly you will receive a decision from us. They meet once a week in a lengthy discussion setting and letters are being mailed each week to students.

Hey guys, I have an interesting theory that may answer everyone’s questions about why they don’t have a decision yet.

So my theory is that the regional counselor first reads the apps, and unless they are a definite rejection, keeps them. Then he/she sends those that seem most interested first. By doing this, and waitlisting other qualified students, Vandy gets it’s desired ~200 students, with the lowest acceptance rate attainable. That might explain the extensive waitlists, and scattered stats.

Yeah I definitely think its by region. Seems like the other few NY state kids haven’t gotten their letters yet. I’m not feeling too optimistic though, I’ve been slaughtered this app season.

That’s good to hear I’m not the only one on here from NY that hasn’t gotten a letter.

Same here. I sent in my application in early February and everything else was sent in by the 2nd week of February and I still haven’t heard anything. I feel like I’ll be waiting for a reject letter at this point…

Don’t be discouraged if you haven’t received a letter yet. By no means does it mean you’re not as qualified as those who were already accepted. If you look at last year’s thread, a majority of the students received their letters in late April/early May.

Got accepted last Wednesday. School of engineering…major:EE

But still do not know which to choose? Vandy or Umichigan?

I do not think investment bankers and McKinsey know vandy…

@xszhang,

As nice as Vandy is, I think Michigan would be better for I-Banking. Here is a really informal thing I found

@xszchang,
I agree with theclassof2013. I actually read an article not too long ago about how Vandy students were upset because not as many of the big wall street IB firms came to Vandy compared to other top schools. I’m personally a Finance/Econ major, so I look up this stuff.

So i got a response from my admission counselor this morning all she said was we began sending out decisions last week and will continue making decisions throughout the summer what is that supposed to mean?

Still waiting it out here in Texas :P. Anyone in the Texas region heard back yet?
