Hi all. I did not notice a transfer thread for the Fall 2021 semester so I decided to start one. I am applying to Vanderbilt University as a transfer student for the Fall 2021 Semester. I will include some information below to help you all out.
Current University: Arizona State University - Barrett Honors College
Current College GPA: 4.02 (Capped at 4)
Current Year: Freshmen (Transferring as a Sophomore)
Race: Hispanic
ACT: 31
Current Major: Political Science
HS GPA: Can’t remember but pretty poor, somewhere around average unweighted.
No one here will be able to accurately chance you. Because you are transferring as a freshman, your HS GPA will be an important part of any transfer admissions decision.
I don’t know what you mean when you say your HS GPA was ‘pretty poor’ but if it was below a 3.5 transferring to a reach school like Vandy will be difficult, even for a URM.
What major/school are you applying to (at Vandy and everywhere else you are applying)?
Make sure that you focus your essays on what the transfer schools offer that your current school doesn’t, rather than talk about what is wrong with ASU/Barrett.
What is your budget? Do all of the schools you are applying to meet full need for transfers?
I’m not asking for any chances regarding admission. My sole purpose in starting this thread is to provide a place for other students who are interested in transferring to share their stats and outcomes. Vanderbilt is a reach school for me.
Hi, I am also applying to transfer to vandy fall of 2021. It is an enormous reach school for me. If any applicants from last year have advice on making your essay fit what Vanderbilt is looking for please let me know
Current University: Elon University
College GPA: 3.8
HS GPA: 4.20
Current Year: First Year Student (transfer as a Sophomore)
Will it hurt my application if both of my rec letters are from HS teachers? I feel like because of covid I don’t know any of my professors well enough for them to write me a letter.
Could someone chance me?
I’m a current freshman at UMD.
Major: Psychology (I’m applying as HOD for Vandy)
Fall and Winter GPA: 4.0
(I took 16 credits in the fall and 3 credits in the winter)
Spring: I’m taking 19 credits and so far I have all A’s
SAT: 1360
High School GPA UW: 3.6~
High School Weighted GPA: 4.5~
I would like to think my essays and recommendations are strong
My biggest concern is my high school transcript. I took 4 AP classes but 3 exams (Got 5’s on two of them and a 4 on the other.)
@transfergal14 I’m actually a sophomore at UMD applying for Econ at Vandy, so that’s a neat coincidence. From a first impression, your stats look good, but having a 4.0 so far in college (especially since I believe Vandy doesn’t require a midterm report?) should ease some of the admissions committee’s concerns about your high school transcript. However, take anything I say with a grain of salt bc I am not at all qualified to have a strong opinion about your chances. Hoped that helped and good luck!
