Congrats on your acceptance! Nashville is a great little city. As previously mentioned, it not in downtown Nashville but close enough. Vanderbilt has a nice campus with a hospital located in the middle of it which will provide good shadowing and other med school related EC opportunities.
I don’t know about grade deflation. Also, don’t know if you’re aware, but your current GPA doesn’t transfer to Vandy. As far as prestige, med schools don’t care about prestige, they want stellar grades, a high MCAT score and relevant ECs. As far as classes, I’m assuming from your question you may not have taken any of your pre-med courses yet? At most schools at least some, if not all, of those courses are weed-out classes. If you’ve already taken them, then no worries because your current transcript will cover them for your med school application.
Also, med school is quite expensive, so hopefully Vandy is giving you excellent FA if you need it. The less debt the better because med school often aren’t as generous.
Yikes! Can you appeal the FA from Penn or do you not qualify for it in general? Not that I’m prying but is that doable for your family? Or would you need loans? If loans in any significant amount are needed I’d take the full tuition. Graduating debt free is such a gift! You can always apply to Penn or other Ivies for grad school.
I can afford Penn, but I don’t know how I feel about putting that on my parents. I have three other siblings who are in college or about to go into college, so it’s just another added expense.
My parents have done so much for me, so I want them to be able to retire as soon as possible. I am definitely taking some time to think about it.
@samtheman000 they offered me loans but like that’s basically not financial aid when the interest rates are like 5-6% lol
Thx!! I just finished my freshman year of college and have taken several pre med courses although I still have a good amount left. Im also comparing what schools would give me the best opportunities to shadow or do research. I like Vanderbilt but was just worried about the state and city just because I have never been to Nashville.
Vanderbilt is on the west side of town, but minutes from downtown. The Nashville metro population is 2 million and growing fast. It is young and vibrant with plenty of companies moving their headquarters from the north to 0% income tax TN. Lots of things to do all the time on-campus and off. The Nashville restaurant and varied music (not just country music anymore) scene is booming too. NFL football, NHL hockey, MLS soccer, minor league baseball, and all the SEC college sports are in town. Outdoor adventures very close by.
Hey mine is still there. I think they usually release on Thursdays, so if it is coming out tomorrow it’ll probably disappear in the morning or afternoon. I don’t think it will be coming out today
Maybe the AO secretly (or not so secretly) decided to take a small vacation these last 2 weeks. You know they really need it with all the stress and what not.
