Reflection
Strengths: Academics (Nothing but A’s)
Weaknesses: SAT score is actually kind of weak compared to other acceptees/waitlistees; no super-notable EC’s
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Lots of wishing!

I am so happy!!! I got my MOSAIC invitation back in February, but I got my admittance package today and I was in awe of the aid I was offered! Finances were looking rough, but now Vandy is comparable to my in-state choice as far as price. I am BEAMING!

I just got in today with REALLY nice finaid (I mean cheaper than UVa and I am instate)
It’s half what GU is expecting - though I’m hoping the latter was wrong because it had totally odd not related to me aid in it.
SO surprising. I was bracing for a rejection.

@ talalazeem and An0nmity,
I am pakistani - born and raised here/parents from peshawar - too!
guess there are quite a few of us here =]

talal - have you applied to vandy?

For the people who received their FinAid packets: Was it in the acceptance envelope? Where specifically in it?

Was anyone accepted that did not take time to visit Vanderbilt or have an interview?

Comments: Waitlisted at WashU, Northwestern and Vanderbilt…

I didn’t interview and also haven’t had the chance to visit campus yet, but i think they were okay with it since I’m from New York.
I’m honored to have been accepted, though, especially since my stats aren’t as astronomical as some of the people who’ve posted here already.

I visited, but never did an interview. I had several people available for an interview in my area, so I was a bit worried that would negatively affect me. I guess I got lucky though!

My FinAid was with my acceptance package.

I visited but did not do an interview. I did meet with and talk to my regional counselor, but only once or twice.

I was waitlisted at Duke today, but I could care less! Vandy was my dream school and I can actually afford going there!!!

Accepted to Biomedical Engineering

2350
National AP Scholar
3.81/4.0
PUMMPPED

Im actually pretty stunned by the size of the Finaid package…51k and no loans.

Decision: ACCEPTED!!!

Objective:
SAT I (breakdown): math:760 writing:740 reading:750
SAT II: chemistry:780, chinese:760, math2:730, USHistory:700
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): my school doesn’t do a 4.0 scale. I have an average of 87.12, and the average GPA from people in my school who got accepted into vandy is 85.something
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): no idea sorry. not top 10% though.
AP (place score in parenthesis): Both Englishes(4), Chemistry(5), US History(4), CalcAB(5)
Senior Year Course Load: Advanced Physics(prepares you for the AP C Mechanics exam), Applied Math 2 (goes beyond Calc BC), Latin 3, a lot of amazing electives

Subjective:
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Drama(14 productions total), Choir/Voice lessons (Madrigals), Community Service, GSA (Head)
Job/Work Experience: None
Volunteer/Community service: 250+ hours with a nonprofit exchange program, 2 weeks at an orphanage in Shanghai
Summer Activities: Community Service, World Science Festival, Entrepreneur’s Class, Finland Exchange funded by the Finnish Parliament, orphanage in Shanghai
Essays: moral decision I had to make with my host family in Finland. It’s pretty decent, but would’ve been better if there hadn’t been the 600 word limit.
Teacher Recommendation: Both pretty amazing.
Counselor Rec: Pretty->very good. She’s my dorm head too so she knows me pretty well.
Additional Rec: None submitted
Interview: None, though I did meet the person who was going to be reading my app in person when she visited my school. I was the only one who really talked in the beginning so she probably remembers me.

Other
Applied for Financial Aid?: No
Intended Major: Philosophy
State (if domestic applicant): Massachusetts
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: small boarding school
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: Well off enough to not need financial aid. My parents won’t tell me anything beyond that.
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Lived in Shanghai for the second half of freshman year, attended a British international school there

Reflection
Strengths: international experience, very good preparation because of the insane academics in my school, huge upward trend in grades, grades reliable in the sense that Vanderbilt knows my school really well, good but not amazing extracurriculars
Weaknesses: pretty mediocre sophomore year because of adjusting to a new school, freshman grades don’t really mean too much because of the switch to a British system, an Asian with my SAT scores kind of throws me into the pile of “oh look another Asian”.
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Because Vandy likes me YAAAYYY
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: University of Edinburgh(unconditional acceptance), Georgetown(accepted), Barnard (accepted), Boston College (accepted), UChicago (waitlisted), Northwestern (waitlisted), Middlebury (waitlisted), Columbia (deferred ED), Duke (rejected)
The rest of my list: Brown, Harvard, Tufts
General Comments: I’m really happy I got in; Vandy is gorgeous, and its package is SO PRETTY!! But at this point I’m deciding between Barnard and Georgetown. One of you waitlisted people can take my place!

Decision: Accepted

Those of you who received huge financial aid packages from Vandy!
Could you post your EFC (I know its private stuff, but if not too much trouble)? I just want to know if I stand a chance attending beforehand. :S
Also, was the majority needbased grants? Thanks!

I applied for the Cornelius Scholarship, but I didn’t get it. However!! When I received my acceptance letter from Vandy my total financial aid package was $41663! This of course was all in the form of a need-based grant. With an EFC of 9080 I also was offered a work study for $1697. I still need to make up roughly $9000 a year to fully pay for Vandy’s Total COA. Ugh…I don’t know what to do!

Hey, I was rejected by the scholarship.

Is there any possibility I will get a good financail aid package?

Yeah, for sure!

To those who have their FA package: Was it on a separate sheet inside the Dores booklet? Or was it in the larger envelope? Can you give any specifics? I don’t seem to have one…
