Vanderbilt University Transfer Thread Fall 2016

Hey Everyone!

Vanderbilt Transfers!!! What’s up! I didn’t see a thread so I said why not go ahead and make one!

Location: Nashville, TN - I live(d) in Vandy-land, I MISS IT SO MUCH

I applied as a senior in high school and sadly didn’t get in, but not going to let let that get me down or deter me from trying again!

Applying as a Fall 2016 Transfer

High School Stats:
GPA: 3.4 (Nationally and State Top Ranked High School, took APs)
Scores: SAT: 1710 ACT: 26 (debating a retake) (as a Nashville native I know that these are extremely low)

Current University: Purdue University

GPA: 3.73, 19 Credit Hours

Current Major: English but wanting to transfer into International Relations/Studies

College EC’s: 5 EC’s (Purdue Contemporary Dance Company, Circle K, etc.)

High School EC’s:
Student Government(Events Chair and previous Community Service Chair, co-founded event)
Beta Club(President)
Dance
Job Experience
Law Firm Internship
Other stuff but who really cares about high school anymore, ya know?

Essays are definitely going to be my strong suit, sending in a dance supplement as well, and have my recommendations.

I am just having a minor mental break down because I made a C+ in Calculus (which I took for a challenge, to necessary to my major at all) and I am like asking myself why…because every thing else are A’s like pls stop.

I really REALLY R E A L L Y want to be at Vanderbilt, and truly hoping and praying for the absolute best this time around!

But good luck everyone and chance me would be hype but not required.

I’ll post my stats, too although I’m still working diligently on my app (lol)

Asian Female

ACT: 30

EC:
4 yrs wrestling manager
1 yr rock climbing team
1 yr tennis team
church volunteer
2 yr HOSA (Secretary position, qualification for nationals)

2 APS

College: UW Fox Valley (2 year school) Pre-Nursing major but want to change to Neuroscience major
GPA 3.57 28 completed credits

Nursing and Allied Health Club
Resident Assistant job experience
Retail work experience
Phi Theta Kappa
(possibly Biology club and UW Fox Tennis team)

I plan on getting 3 letters of rec, 1 i know will be extremely strong.

I also plan on writing an essay highlighting why I think changing to a neuroscience major will really change the course of my life, talking about what i learned about other transfer school options and why Vanderbilt would be the best fit for me, and about why I’m really interested in interdisciplinary studies and research opportunities.

I think my app is sort of up in the air, isnt it?

I would say so! You have strengths and like any other applicant a few weaknesses and I wish the supreme best! Gahhhh I am probably going to submit my application this month! Can’t believe I am doing this all over again.

I know, I’m really excited and nervous! If this doesnt work out, I’ll be going to UW Madison. Which is fine but I think Vanderbilt is honestly a better fit for me.

Did you already apply to UW-Madison?

My school has a guaranteed transfer program in which if I get my Associates at my school and maintain a certain GPA I will be accepted into Madison and all my credits will 100% transfer. So, essentially since I already declared Madison for my guaranteed transfer, yes I’m already accepted to Madison!

I’ll post my stats as well:
HS GPA: 3.1
College: 4.0 in a third tier state university (University of Central Florida).
64 credits completed
Current major: economics. Major if accepted: history and economics.
SAT: Math: 670 Reading: 670 Writing: 690 (re-taking this saturday).
ACT: 29 (also re-taking).
EC’s:
Volunteer coordinator at the school’s volunteering agency: Coordinated 7 events with up to 30 volunteers. ~250 community service hours.
SGA Justice: Research chair for the Student Handbook Committee, Vice-chair of the Judicial Council mentorship program, and I sit on student conduct boards, grade appeals, and transportation services tickets appeals.
Intern at a business litigation law firm.
Alternative Break Program volunteer (Spent a week helping at a homeless shelter).

Western Equestrian Team (horseback riding): Have done some additional volunteering and do intercollegiate competitions.

Good luck to everyone!

Ahh, best of luck this Saturday! I decided not to retake. I am sort at the take me or leave me stage. I know Vanderbilt loves their high test scores but I am sure that it wouldn’t be all the impressive if I make a 30 or 31 after I graduated. They’ve seen my scores once, ya know? Like I am not too too worried about it, hopefully my current academic strengths are enough to prove to them that I can indeed handle a heavy course load at the college level as I have at Purdue. @FutureEconomist

I’ll be applying to Vanderbilt too! I’m currently a second semester sophomore at a university ranked around #50.

College:
College GPA: 4.0/4.0 over 53 credits
English major and Classics minor
Will need Financial Aid

HS:
Secular Studies GPA: 5.07/4.3 (straight A’s and A+’s in all Honors – school did not offer any AP classes)
Jewish Studies GPA: 3.97/4.3 (shows upward trend every year to where I got straight A’s, but was in Regulars)
I had on average 18 classes a semester in high school due to the dual curriculum.
I only took one AP (English Lit) during high school and received a 4 - I self studied.
I was accepted to my current university through an Early Admissions program, which let me skip 12th grade. So I only went to high school for 3 years.

SAT: 2220 (770 CR, 760 W, 690 M)
ACT: 32 (36 E, 34 CR, 32 M, 27 S)
Did not take SAT Subject Tests ever

College Extracurriculars:
Reporter for School Newspaper, Internship at the Mayor’s Office in a Nearby City, Paid Peer Tutor at the University, On the Committee for Programming at the Hillel on Campus, Member of University’s Grievance Committee, Note-Taker for Office of Disabilities at the University, Coach for a Little League Sports Team on Sundays, Social Director for the Condo I Live in, Founding Member of University’s Classics Table, Founding Member of University’s Fantasy Sports Club

Recommendations: Two professors I’ve taken twice each (one is an English professor and one is a Math professor). I went to their office hours a lot so they know me quite well, and I received A’s and A+'s from them both, so I think the letters will be strong.

I’m hoping!

I will be extremely in awe if you are not admitted. Such a strong record! Good luck!!

Applying as well! Prospective engineering student

HS stats:
GPA: 3.9
ACT: 30 in HS (retaking in the morning, have been getting 34-35 on practice tests)
ECs: worked all through HS, lots of horse 4H- made it to a few national competitions, lots of state-level placings

College:
4.0 at a community college, member of the Honors Program
Virtually no college ECs because I work full-time (and actually have a part time job as well. I work ~50hrs a week)
Will be transferring in calc 1-3, but not a lot of other science classes. Almost all gen eds should be done.
My recs are both from math prof’s so that might seem bad.
Essay should be strong.
I’m visiting the campus at the end of Feb, can’t wait!!

Feel free to chance. I feel ridiculous being this nervous as a “grown up.” If I don’t get into vandy or my other elite choices, I will go to Ohio state & be fine, but I really want to get in!

Submitted my application tonight! Oh the feels, the feels!!!

@cmartin12 I submitted my application over this past weekend! Did you get the email to set up your account on their portal website yet?

No not quite yet! I haven’t gotten it yet. Have you? @anonymous55

@cmartin12 Yeah! I sent out my application last Saturday night, and they got back to me with how to set up my account on Monday. According to the portal, they have all my stuff except my high school transcript and SAT scores, so all my stuff is almost in!

Current School: East Coast Public Ivy
Prospective Major: Economics
High School GPA (Weighted): 4.8214 (14 AP classes and three dual-enrolled courses; received seven 5’s and four 4’s on eleven AP exams taken)
High School Class Rank: 1/273
College GPA: 3.82 (17 credit hours last semester and 16 credit hours this semester)
SAT (“Superscored”): 2320
Extracurriculars: Investment Club (Junior Analyst), Finance Academy (Member), Middle East Student Association (Cultural Chair), Ruritans (Vice President), tutor at a low-income housing complex, member of a student organization for active citizens, one of 40 students invited to spend a weekend at a NASA flight facility back in August 2013, high school debate team (Vice President for two years), director for a local play festival

competition seems more difficult this year… or maybe it’s just me.

Hey guys, sorry for being out of the loop for so long; I’ve been checking another thread and was beginning to worry when people stopped posting a couple months back! I’m a sophomore at Vanderbilt who transferred in last fall. The University is taking great strides to help integrate transfer students into Vanderbilt, and I want you all to know you’re welcome to ask me any questions you may have. Feel free to message me or post on here for everyone to see, I’ll try to get back to you quick.
