And.....go!

In this particular case, I think the regional differences probably trump everything else. Women are more like to wear lip gloss and make-up during the day at a school in the south than they would in New England. There is negligible fraternity or sorority presence at most small New England colleges. Wesleyan has a sizable student population from both coasts with a small southern population.

if this thread was about which one i’d rather go to than id choose Vandy.

There is a big difference in culture between these two schools. I am a huge Vanderbilt fan, but I know Wesleyan is an excellent school. With Vanderbilt you do get a pretty strong Greek scene as well as serious athletics (SEC). If you are interested in that, Vandy is the way to go. If you hate sports, go with Wesleyan. Nashville is a great city and a terrific place for students. One other word— WEATHER.

greek stranglehold and frowning down on people who are free thinkers vs hippie intolerance to people who are different then them. I love lac’s but I also love vandy. nashville is an up and coming city …new england is not in the best of shape.
I choose vandy!

I would have gone to Vandy in a heartbeat. It’s a really awesome school, in a very fun place with moderate temperatures.

Maker’s Mark vs. Franzia.

Although both are great schools, Vandy tops Wesleyan in all those categories. I’d pick Vandy without a second thought.

^^What are Vandy’s stats on job placement? I mean, Nashville is a great city and all, but once you go to school there, aren’t you pretty much committed to staying in the south?

You aren’t at all committed to staying in the south. Vanderbilt has a growing national reputation. The fact is that most of the students don’t WANT to leave the South! :)

^^ vandy already has a national rep! this is not 1899 it is 2012

Wes is in a small town, in the middle of no where

So you want to compare everything but academics?

Either way, Vanderbilt wins.

^^Interestingly, the main difference between Wesleyan and Vanderbilt, academically, is that 17% of all Vanderbilt graduates are engineering majors (in fact, no other major even comes close) while Wesleyan graduates nearly the same percentage of visual and performing arts majors:

Wesleyan is one of my top choices. I know a bit about Vandy because my uncle went there.

Socially, Vandy is much more a party school and has better athletics. Wesleyan has great athletics for a small LAC, but not as much as Vandy. Wesleyan is not as much of a party school, though there is a fair amount of recreational drug use.

I’ve never seen the Vanderbilt campus, but I loved Wesleyan’s campus. Everything you need is within a short walking distance. I had my tour in the rain, and it was still gorgeous.

Weather wise, Wesleyan is colder but not too bad. They only had a few snow days last year, so I heard.

They are equal in prestige, I’d personally give the edge to Wesleyan only because my uncle who got in to Vandy was a total slacker in HS and college, so I’m biased. But things have probably changed since then.

Getting a job shouldn’t be based on the school. I do know that my uncle has been unemployed since graduation, but that’s not necessarily Vandy’s fault. My uncle is a slacker…lol.

Anyway, the main difference is the social life. Vandy is southern, preppy, more of a party hard school, while Wesleyan has a lot of hipsters and extremely left-wing students. They’re both great schools.
