Vanderbilt v Emory

Which is better/different is respective areas?

Discuss! :)

(open to anything)

Vanderbilt has hotter girls and parties

Doctorsboy knows what it's about

The decision should definitely come down to social factors. In general, Emory's student body is more liberal and nerdy. Vanderbilt tends to attract more athletes and is politically moderate/conservative.

If you are a college sports fan, I’d pick Vandy. SEC Football tailgates are amazing, top 20 basketball team, and a top 5 baseball team (all you have to do is show your Vandy Card to get into the games). Emory does have sports as well as they compete in the UAA against U. Chicago, WashU, NYU, etc. but there is probably less school spirit.

Elite Eight this year, national champions next year... go to vanderbilt

I agree with the comments above. Students at Vandy tend to be more athletic and conservative, while the opposite is true for Emory. If Vanderbilt and Emory faced each other in a dodgeball match, the Emory kids would walk away with bloody noses and be stuffed in their lockers.

SSSSOOOOO what does dodgeball that have to do with academics??

Academically -- they are similiar.

However, Vandy has a large party scene with lots of extroverted (and better-looking) kids. While an introverted person would probably fit in better at Emory. Social fit is important when deciding your home for 4 years.

SUBJECTIVE DATA

Peer Assessment:
Emory: 4.0 Vanderbilt: 4.1

Quantitatively, these schools have very, very similar profiles both on objective and subjective measures. The only noticeable difference of any size is Emory's higher Selectivity which is driven by Emory's Top 10% numbers (90% vs 77% for Vandy). Also, Emory's Alumni Giving level is moderately higher. Non-quantitative factors, including those referenced above by others, should most determine the selection between these two schools.

My D was considering Emory, so we asked a physician we know who grew up in deep south and went to school at Emory. He said it was a great school, but he wasn't sure he would would go there again if given a chance to do it over. Emory is NOT a southern school. Large Jewish population, so great if you want that. Another friend sent his two daughters there-he had plenty of money. He said money was VERY well spent. Atlanta is pretty cool too. Good Luck
