Vanderbilt vs. Duke...HELP!

Please Help Me!
After much, much thought, I've narrowed it down to Vanderbilt or Duke. I am planning to major in Biomedical Engineering, although that's by no means set in stone- I could easily switch to another branch of engineering or leave it all together. I want an intelligent school with a great faculty and good research opportunities. More importantly, I want a school with a good atmosphere- students that study but also have fun, are geeky but friendly, and above all, seem happy. I'm not much of a party-er and don't plan on drinking. Vandy is closer to home than Duke (I could come home any weekend at Vandy; only every month or so at Duke), and is financially a little better, although not by enough to rule Duke out completely.

I'm at a complete loss.

What do you think?
Any help would be very, very, VERY appreciated.

Have you visited the schools?

definitely Duke for BME. it is 3 in the nation and vandy isnt even in the top 20.

Vanessa, if you are asking for rational opinions, 99% of us will tell you to go for Duke. Had you told us that you are planning on majoring in English or that Vanderbilt had offered given you a $40,000/year scholarship, it would have been more even, but given your academic interests and the relatively similar cost of attendence, I am sorry to say you won't find many Vanderbilt supporters.
