Good Luck

Jerod

ED or reg?

Might want to apply to Duke.

you have a good shot at vandy... prolly in

hey theycallmetibbs ( i dont mean to steal your thread from you) but bballstar...what do you think of my stats for vandy too ?
early decision Vanderbilt---what do you guys think

good--
4.2 weighted (3.6 unw)
Jewish
29 ACT- (vanderbilts mid 50% is 29-32 i THINK)
good essays -reviewed by aunt (aunt checks applicants for stanford graduate school)
IB program-most rigorous course load
gradual trend upward in highschool career
-valueable awards (Girls State, Leadership Programs, National Essay Winner)
-Swim Team Captain (4 years, varsity letter)

ouch

-AP Scholar but scared that my average of only getting 3's on APs might hurt me (no 4s or 5s yet)
-top 30% (competitive highschool) #1 is a 4.7
-made one C average soph year in AP history
-SAT IIs (not required but sent) English- 670 History -620- Math IIC- 510? (i know the math and his arent awesome but they are not required)

Hopefully they will consider the competiveness of your high school. 3.6 UW and top 30 percent don't match. Since you applied ED, you have a good shot. I'm not really sure on how much they take in account EC's , but do you have anymore ?

Good Luck

Jerod

Hey Omni--

i have a good amount of ECs ( I just didn't want to list them all) and they arent worthless (like 2nd seat Chellist for 10th grade year)...they're quality ECS...and my highschool was ranked in Newsweek as #2 in the nation in 2002 for the number of IB diplomas recieved...thats why I am 30% with a 4.2 weighted...there are 10 kids tied for number 1 in my class and 32 for number 2...haha...dont you wish you went to MY school!! P.S. thanks for the advice

You are borderline, honestly. which school did apply to? good essays/recs will get you in.

How about my stats for engineering:
4.0uw/4.45w 5/400rank
1350SAT, 30ACT, 780IIC, writing/physics next weekend
550+ hours at engineering firm, heavy involvement with varsity baseball, varsity golf, TSA, SkillsUSA
13-15 AP/GT/honors classes, 6 ap classes 4 tests(chem is all year parts 1 and 2, and took ab and bc calc in one year, so only took the bc test, physics, and us history)

And I thought it was bad having a 3.8 UW and being in the top 13-14 percent.

haha well........ 4.0 weighted at my school is around top 30%

bsballstar you are all set...hopefully (in my sake) ill see you there!

omni and bball--are you doing early to vandy ?

sounds good, i really like vanderbilt, it seems more relaxed than the ivies =)

I hope i get good financial aid, and can actually go!

Good luck to you!

to join the bandwagon here is me...i am applying to the Engage Scholars/Regular Admission to Vandy....majoring in either poly sci or medicine (if i get in to the engage program.....highly unlikely however)

Please tell me if i am a legit candidate

I am an indian (born in America but parents are from India) who resides in Louisiana and goes to a famous/incredibly hard boarding school named Choate Rosemary Hall (in the same league as Andover and Exeter)...nothing else of worthy note no siblings at anywhere (except BU), no legacies

Academics
SATI: 1410 (740 M, 670 V)
SATII: 730 writing
690 Math 1C
660 Math IIC
650 Chemistry

GPA: Freshman and Sophmore year: 4+ GPA at a local private school here in louisiana (best in the parish) and took pretty hard classes and was top in my class. I took a varied courseload and thus when the classes at the school ran out, i took classes at a local university (University of Louisiana) (Classes were Bio, Calculus 2, College Enlgish 200) and got another slate of 4.0....i was accepted to Choate and entered as a junior....

Junior year (Choate): Junior year i took AP Chem, English 300, AP Statistics, Spanish 200, and American History....the result wasnt what i wanted but i improved steadily each term...i ended up with a 2.81 unweighted GPA and a 3.01 Weighted GPA

Senior year (Choate): Senior year (currently) i took Honors American Political Institutions (evolves into AP Gov), British Literature, Honors Anatomy and Physiology, Spanish 300, AP Macroeconomics (evolves into AP Micro), and a directed study in Dynamic Modeling (math/comp sci course)....this term i earned a 3.5 unweighted GPA and a 3.7 weighted GPA.

EC's
I wont list all of them just the important ones

-over 600 total hours of volunteer hours at a local hospital, nursing homes, soup kitchens since freshman year
-learned to play 3 instruments myself (violin-4 years, tabla-3 years, trombone- 1yr) played in the band for two years...
-JV basketball (1yr), JV volleyball (1yr), Varsity Tennis (2yr), hopefully Varsity Vollyball this year
-Clubs: Participated in many including cultural and misc. ones but no leadership position besides participating in the Student Class Committee junior year....also was a member of National Honors Society
-Won the State Science fair and state poetry contest (3rd place) and won the state Air Force Award for my science project
-My main EC is probably heavily politically campaigning for candidates such as John Kerry and Bobby Jindal

democrats dont get in, vandy isnt in the northeast..

just kidding.. you have a good chance of getting in, but i dont know much about the scholarship program... i know its service based and you have that, you may be a strong candidate for it... not sure

hey there ns

your gradual increase in gpa will impress them, as well as your SAT score, and the fact that you are an extreme minority---the only things for your own concern

-there wont be too many kerry lovers at vandy lol
-(this will benefit you) but the indian pop. at vandy is very small and limited..if that doesnt bother you then Kudos! (it will def help you get in) good luck!

just to point out im a very conservative liberal (if that exists) im gunning for guliuani for 2008 and rooted for Jindal (R-LA) but kerry was the stronger candidate IMHO.....

Oh and indians never get along anyways...so the less the better unless they're a great bunch of people...

Thanks for the comments

haha, good luck

lol nh your killing me..the less the better? haha well...you'll find a ton of white southern rich kids at vandy
