so sorry dwhite’s family is dealing with a serious disappointment today. Admissions to Vandy have become very very similar to Duke’s folks, please keep in mind how random the decisions can be. The admissions staff knows that this is a pool of “equals” in varied individuals and that a point or two on a test score is not a way to choose anyone. Sorry for all those disappointed. Our son’s ACT is not in the top quartile at Vanderbilt anymore and the eldest son in 05 applied with only 11 thousand other people in a year where admissions were over 30%. You are talking major major numbers here and equally deserving people. Vanderbilt has changed rapidly in the last six years re selectivity and more than doubled their applicant pool.
Mathmaster, I would suggest you consider ED2 at another university, perhaps one that has more reasonable odds re your SAT score if you can find a school you also like that provides financial aid based on need as generously as Vanderbilt. Either that or build a list of colleges with a variety of odds re selectivity. You should be proud of that GPA and the recommendations you earned…make them work for you at another college.
