I got accepted to Vanderbilt and am really excited about it. However, one of my major concerns is the fact that Vandy doesn't have a business program for undergrads. So what opportunities does Vanderbilt have for prospective business people? Is it possible to still get a good job in the business world after coming out of Vandy?

My other choice is Villanova, which has a reputable business program. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Major in economics and minor in managerial studies.

Vanderbilt is far more prestigious than Villanova. Look at the Vanderbilt Alumni List (Dore2Dore) -- lots of people at Goldman, Merrill, Morgan Stanley, etc.

Actually, I would also like to know about internship opportunities in general....How available are they and how difficult are they to get.......?

True, and how heavily recruited is it? My teacher who is an alumn said that all her friends had their pick of jobs at Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan etc.

Your teacher may have been friends with a very qualified bunch of people, but that's not the norm. Vandy alums get jobs at all of these places, but not everyone who wants them gets them. If you're qualified these are possible.

I'm not trying to scare you, but I don't think it's reasonable to come to Vanderbilt and think everyone has a bulge bracket IB analyst position offer in hand when they graduate. My class is graduating at a time when those jobs are not very plentiful due to the economy, but I don't think that it is ever the case where there are tons of kids going to white shoe firms.

You'll have great opportunities coming from Vandy. Many investment banks and management consulting firms interview here and hire them. Some choose not to interview here, but that doesn't preclude you from working at Blackstone, Lazard, etc. You just have to work harder for those places.

I can't definitively say that Vanderbilt is heavily recruited, because the answer is relative. For the GS, MS, McK type of jobs, recruiting is better than it would be at UT Knoxville, but worse than Wharton.

I'm an econ major and can answer questions about the program. I was prelaw and was not very interested in i-banking, so I'm not the most knowledgeable person on the subject. I have friends who are interest in that line of work, so I'm a little familiar with it.

Ibanking is hard from any school. But the recruiters do come on to campus, if you have the grades and good interviewing skills you will be fine. Networking also helps.
