I want go to medical school. I have received full tuition from Vanderbilt, but will pay full stick to more prestigious MIT and Princeton. if you prefer prestigious school, MIT or Princeton?

Vanderbilt. If you are going to be a doctor, follow the money - the prestige of your UG won’t matter, and going to Vanderbilt certainly won’t hurt your chances of going in (it may even help, since it’s relatively inflated compared to the other two). Only reason for considering the other two is if there is a large chance you might suddenly decide you want to go into finance or consulting.

This is assuming you don’t get huge grants, of course.

I do not have any grant from MIT or Princeton.

Med school? Go to Vandy. No debt will save you a lot. Med schools is expensive beyond belief, but I guess one needs to invest to make money later on…

Do people go to prestigious school because of peer pressure. What about your classmates go better schools and you don’t.

mountain, people go to prestigious schools because, in general, those are also where you tend to get a better education…

In this case, the full scholarship would have to win…

^ Yes, I agree.

Vanderbilt just because you’ll graduate debt-free. If you do not mind much about money, then either MIT or Princeton (either one will be good. choosing between these two schools will matter more on which atmosphere you fit well)

Vanderbilt of course! Save your money for the med-school.

Vandy is also great school worth attending!

Vanderbilt is an elite undergraduate institution. You are not weighing Pittsburgh or BU (not picking on these two schools) full rides vs. Princeton/MIT.

Go with Vandy.

Vandy.

By naming specific schools, you kind of are.

^ agreed. But I would personally go to MIT or Princeton ONLY because my dad is already paying full price for Emory and would not mind paying full for MIT. BUT if finances are a problem for you, definitely go to Vandy.

With med school in your future, go to Vandy. Great school at a great price.

Vanderbilt for free is a great option, assuming two things:

1) The OP is 100% sure he will go to medical school. From my experience, I would estimate that only 50% of 18 year olds who say they are 100% sure they want to be doctors change their minds before they graduate from college.

2) The OP’s family is not wealthy. If the OP’s family is wealthy, then I would recommend Princeton.

^^concur (almost) with Alexandre.

MIT does not do well in med admissions. Check their own published data.

I would estimate that 75% of matriculating premed Frosh never get to the med application stage (and numbers bear this out).

Thank you.

Another Vandy vote. Seems a no-brainer at a savings of $160k.

Vanderbilt. Although Princeton is pretty amazing.

Vanderbilt is a good place to do pre-med. Great medical center on campus. Some of the premed students I know take advantage of the opportunity to job shadow and volunteer with medicine-related groups.

Also, it is a very good school and Nashville is a great place to go to college.

FWIW: My son is not a premed student, but attends Vanderbilt on one of the big merit scholarships; no loans, money in the bank at graduation, a great school in a fun town…what’s not to like?
