Vandy, NYU or UMich?? HELP!!!

hi guys

Im majoring in Economics, and is having serious trouble deciding between these 3 schools!! all are amazing options but they are so different. I want to work in Art Management after college, and is thinking about minoring in Art History.
If i go to UMich or NYU id be aiming to get into their business schools i.e. Stern and Ross. If i go to Vandy I’d just be doing Econ.

I’m a Chinese girl, and is scared as to if I will fit in alright at Vandy since I’ve heard its got significantly lower number of asians attending than the other two.

I’m also thinking about maybe transferring after a year or two and try for the ivies.

Which of these is the best for me??? what would you choose if you were in my shoes?

Don’t go somewhere with the goal of transferring out. That’s so depressing!

Are you in the Facebook groups for those 3 schools? Looking through the posts should give you a general vibe. Did you go to admitted student days or visit the campuses?

Agree with XCjr. Go to college looking to thrive and to have the best 4 years of your life. Also, I don’t think the ivies take many, or any, transfers.

@XCjunior2016 i’m kinda low key disappointed with my offers…… i have a perfect score for the SAT, a 800 and 730 in 2 SATlls, and was kinda sorta hoping to end up somewhere better :’( But I learned first hand that scores doesn’t matter when it comes to admissions. I go to school in HK and is unable to fly to US to visit the campus although i really want to:(

@bud123 Brown (my dream skl) takes 100-200 transfers each year according to their website

That is higher than I thought. I’ve heard Princeton does not take any transfers, Harvard takes 10-12/yr, & Yale 20-25.

Wait so you did not get into Ross or Stern yet? Ross already accepted half of their class so there might not be room for you when you apply as a sophomore. Furthermore, I think Stern is a bit overrated (maybe it’s because I’m from the area). I’d say just go to Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt has an asian population in an average class of around 12% which is not that bad. Fitting in might be a problem if you keep thinking you need other asians to relate to. In the work force or wherever in the future, not everyone is gonna be asian and you have to get comfortable with relating with people with same and different interests. Besides, out of a school of like 7,000 undergrads, having around 700 asians is more than enough. I am asian am considering Vandy, Hopkins, Emory, and CMU at the moment. Yea, I had a 2390 (although not 2400) and 800 in Math 2 790 in Chem and Bio M and 750 in US History. I got waitlisted at other schools. My GPA was not that great but my area did worse than usual which is kind of weird.

I agree with the other posters that you should not go to a school with the intention of transferring out. There’s nothing wrong with trying, but be prepared to be rejected.

Vandy does have a lower Asian percentage then the other schools. Yet there are Asian girls in basically all of the sororities and several active Asian organizations. There is some self-segregation, particularly amongst the international students, but you will probably find this at most schools.

I’d actually pick NYU. Its undergrad business school is excellent and will be more applicable to a career in art management than having an Econ degree from Vandy. Furthermore, NYU’s art history program is world-class, and the wealth of resources in NYC (museums, galleries, auction houses, etc.) would provide plenty of opportunities for internships in the art world. Saying this, some of the best professors during my time at Vandy were in the art history department. You should be fine wherever you go.
