Hi, can you guys give me some advice on choosing between those two schools. my situation is that if i went to vandy, it will cost around 10k more than case western each year. and i'm interested in pre-med and planning to go to medical school. i'm currently 50/50 split between those two schools.
vandy for its name and case western for its diversity(i'm asian).
which of those schools have better pre-med programs and is it worth it to spend 10k more each year to attend vandy b/c it's ranked higher?
thanks a lot for any advice you guys have!!

vandy has more prestige

I really don't know much about the pre-med programs, sorry, but I think atmosphere and location will have a lot to do with how you'll feel for four years.

I once considered Case Western, but I heard from a friend who lives in Cleveland that it's in a TERRIBLE part of the city. Cleveland isn't known for being pretty anyways. I've personally been to Vanderbilt. It's in a good, fairly lively part of town with a lot of restaurants. There are a LOT of pretty people and the school atmosphere seems kinda preppy. Sorry if you've heard this before ;-). And yes, Vanderbilt's name trumps Case Western's.

CWRU is a pretty good school, but Vanderbilt is ranked a lot higher and I'm assuming has a much pleasanter environment. If I were in your situation and not strapped for cash, I'd go for Vanderbilt.

VANDY ALL THE WAY! its not even a question! its like saying...

Harvard or Wayne State (ha for those that dont live in michigan wayne state has very bad reputation)

For some reason Case get's such a bad rap for location as well as Cleveland. The college is actually located in a very nice section of Cleveland, and there is plenty to do. Cleveland is also the home of the Cleveland Clinic & University Hospital (located on campus) are two of the best hospitals in the country. The $40,000 more you would be paying at Vandy could be used to help with med school later. I would suggest going to both campuses to see where you fit in best if the money does not matter to you or your parents. Good luck.

Don't knock Case Western. I toured it several years ago and the campus is beautiful. I don't know the ethnic breakdowns, but the OP might be more comfortable there if CWRU has more Asian students. OP, did you research this? A friend of mine, CWRU grad, worked for Intel his whole life and did so well he retired a few years ago-- he hadn't had his 50th birthday.

for that argument... u can do well anywhere if u are a person to do well. u dont even NEED university if you "have what it take". it all depends on your motivation/intelligence/perservarance.. blah blah blah blah

but all in all, if you want a good university that might help you, Vandy is the way to go. Case Western is like good, dont get me wrong, cuz i applied there too.

campuswise case is far from vandy. its in CLEVELAND! COME ON! how beautiful can wayne state be if its in the heart of detroit and i pass by detroit all the time going to canada and it damages your car so much cuz of all the potholes you pass by. think of the grim gray sky, the ugly potholes, the poverty, the... i got my tires slashed while parked in flint eating taco bell becuase it was a TOYOTA what kind of people do these kind of post-industrial cities offer?

swtswtdreams - What in the world does your following statement have to do with Case or its educational value?

"how beautiful can wayne state be if its in the heart of detroit and i pass by detroit all the time going to canada and it damages your car so much cuz of all the potholes you pass by. think of the grim gray sky, the ugly potholes, the poverty, the... i got my tires slashed while parked in flint eating taco bell becuase it was a TOYOTA what kind of people do these kind of post-industrial cities offer?"

I must say I'm confused. I really don't think what you are saying makes much sense. The OP is asking if he/she should spend an extra $10K per year to attend Vandy or go to Case. Case has an excellent reputation, Cleveland has wonderful hospitals, and Case offers the diversity that the OP is asking about.

thanks guys for the advice.
but what about the pre-med programs offered at those schools?
which school is better?
and which one is more competitive?
