Vandy Supplement Length

Should we call it a supplement or just an "additional question"?
When I emailed my admissions officer about the length, she said that she would prefer a paragraph on the "shorter" side. 150-400 words is a pretty broad range, and I know I could make an essay out of it. I'm pretty passionate about the extracurricular I'm writing about, but I don't want to go directly against the admissions officer's advice. I've drafted a few choices, but they all vary in length (and subsequently detail).
Any thoughts/suggestions?
(the deadline is approaching, but I'm so nervous about sending it off lol)

You have a better chance of making the sale if you do what the customer wants.

Also, a good writer should be able to convey “passion” in a few words.

@SoCalDad2‌ thank you for the advice! I’ll definitely try my best, but being concise isn’t exactly a strong suit of mine. (: I wanted to first give an anecdote then proceed, but I’m not sure if I can fit that into the length it should be. Here’s to more drafts to come!

Mine was fairly long, about 365 words or somewhere around there I think. I was kind of describing my part in something big and what I learned from it/what impact it had on me, so I had to do a bit of explaining to have it make sense and not seem vague. Haha I hope we don’t have the same AO

@nerdfighter23‌ I was planning on giving a background story to clarify then explain the impact on my life, but my AO’s (Julianna Staples btw) advice really caught me off guard. Part of me kind of wishes I didn’t ask (lol), oh well! I’m just nervous I won’t be able to fully explain in the length she suggested. (I’m sure your length will be fine though (: )

Honestly, just write whatever length you need to get your point across. If you change it to try to appease her, (and this is just what I’ve heard/sort of what I agree with) you might miss something or make too big a jump from one point to the next. I’m sure you’re just fine, but if it comes down to it, they’re not going to say “nope this one’s not getting in since I only like to read essays that are closer in word length to the min rather than the max.” Just do whatever you think is best for you, not for her. Or at least just don’t focus on what she wants too much. (Mine is Laura Sensenig ahaha (: )

Hopefully that makes some sense lol

So off topic, but I am so jealous of your AO right now, her bio says she like John Green books O.o
I think I may have just died

I was 400 on the dot, if they give the words I’m gonna use them

Oh gosh I wish I never read this post now haha. I have the same AO as you and my essay was also 400 on the dot. As well as my common app essay was 650. I guess I’m not very good at being concise.

@livelovedance97‌ I have a problem with that too lol, and I’m sure you’ll be fine! (:

Don’t worry. My common app essay was 650 words and my Vandy essay was 250 ( that was the limit last year). As long as you don’t make the same points again and again, you’ll be fine!
