im basically down to these two schools (unless i get off one of my SIX waitlists :O) but id like to know everyone's opinions on these two schools in terms of job placement, grading difficulty etc etc. more specifically tho i've become kind of worried after reading this http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/vanderbilt-university/463360-asian-males-would-missing-out-vanderbilt.html and i wanted to hear some comments on the asian community in general and vandy. Thanks

ummm… are you ****ting me?

Grading difficulty is pretty fair but it’s extremely difficult for A&S kids, we actually deflate grade a little bit here. But that only means a 3.2 from Vandy is way more impressive than a 3.2 from Harvard(grade inflation much?).

As far as the Asian males missing out, if you’re gonna be the typical Asian male, yea you’ll miss out. But that goes at ANY university. By that I mean being nerdy, a loner, and antisocial. If you have a bright personality and like making friends people here aren’t going to look down on you because you’re asian. Of course some of the Asians hang out together, but that happens at any school. My point is that it’s very easy to have a fantastic experience and enjoy your time at Vandy. I’m a rising sophomore and would not have traded Vanderbilt for any school. Of course I’m biased because I attend, but think whatever you wish.

1) In North America, both schools are equally renown in both the private/public sector. However, I am not considering regional partialities that might exist. In addition, consider the size of the alumni base for networking purposes.

2) Vanderbilt, indeed has grade deflation. I think the average hovers around ~3.2-3.4. I have no idea about Mcgill.

3) Asian community at Vanderbilt is small compared to other top American institutions. Not surprisingly however, they tended to be well connected.
