Northwestern is more selective if that’s what you are asking. My concern is both are going to be tough with that class rank, although Vandy is more likely to overlook it due to your scores.

Here are the links for the Common Data Sets for both schools. Both are hard to get into. I’m guessing you are asking because you want to apply ED to one or the other. Perhaps the best idea is decide which school you like better and make that your ED school.

Also, you might want to keep in mind that Vanderbilt has ED II.

Both are very competitive. Vandy=16%, NU=18%. One thing to keep in mind is that Vandy has fewer slots to fill (1600 vs. NU’s 2000) hence its slightly slower acceptance rate. I would say NU has greater unpredictability given the much larger volume of apps they’re dealing with (31k vs. Vandy’s 21k) and the fact NU cares about a lot more than numbers. They do end up with a similar numbers profile in the end, but NU tends to have greater diversity in terms of background and interests.

Both are excellent schools, and a difference in admission rates of a few points should not be the focus of your dilemma, especially if it’s as final as ED.
The biggest differences between the schools are their academic strengths and geographic locations. What is your intended major and what are you looking for in a school? How do you feel about the culture of the south, versus the midwest and wind chill off the lake?

I had the same dilemma, then toured vandy and realized it has a very stuck-up, snobby feel to it. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised though after looking at the people from my school who attend there :/

Northwestern and Vanderbilt are fairly similar - it comes down to personal preference. All the freshmen at Vandy are housed together in one section of campus - which has its pros and cons versus NU where they are more dispersed (though there are freshman dorms there, too - just not clustered in one area). The correct thing to think about is which one you like more, not which one is easier to get into, because with admissions rates as they are, neither is “easy.”

I haven’t found Vandy to be stuck up or snobby in the least.

i heard that nashville is also a nice city, but i dont know if thats entirely true compared to chicago…like you guys said, the selectivity is pretty much the same, i just wanted to know about life there…
