Various Misconceptions and Misbeliefs about Colleges

just wondering but do lower ivies (the ones that aren’t HYP) exists in real life? Or is it just CC?

^ No. Penn is actually a state school. Cornell is a figment of your imagination.

No, it is false.

Maybe you’re just very ugly or strange-looking, buddy.

Northwestern and Northeastern are sister schools.

Only Ivy League schools give good financial aid.

Once you get into an Ivy League, you are set for life. Going to a state university? Nah, rather just take a job at Walmart.

Along with Stanford, they certainly do give the best (with respect to need-based aid).

You scored a 2200 on the SAT? ouch, looks like you better re-take it if you want to get into a good college.

Well, achieving a higher score would certainly increase one’s chances, though it’s not required.

Your financial aid package from a school that promises “no loans” and/or “meets 100percent of demonstrated need” will be better than the package from schools that don’t make these claims.

^ It probably will be. (Lots of these misconceptions are misconceived.)

Thou shalt have “the college experience” whether it is financially possible or not.

*Thankfully, my parents don’t subscribe to this view. Neither do I. :D

“^ It probably will be. (Lots of these misconceptions are misconceived.”

^^Wasn’t in my son’s case. Much to the contrary. The schools making these claims simply calculated our EFC about $20K higher than the other schools.

Which schools, if I may ask?

I’ll pm you. Don’t want to hijack the thread.

That people in the real world actually care about how your alma mater is ranked in USNWR.
That every Ivy League student will change the world.
That NYU is only popular because of Gossip Girl and Sex and the City, and that it’s the only top school not worth attending due to its price tag.
That the university on your diploma actually makes a difference.

In many cases, it does.

^Ya…im gonna go ahead and say the the university on your diploma matters

Call me crazy

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh this is iffy. I’d disagree here lol. No way is this categorical.
