My son (HS Junior) just started looking at Columbia. He wants to major in Engineering and would also like to continue his athletic career in track. Is it possible to be an engineering major and still have time for practice everyday? I know at other schools, if you have lab courses it really rules out varsity sports - the schedules conflict. Is there a time of day when all classes are over - leaving time for other scheduled activities?

There are a handful of engineers that play varsity sports but by and large most (varsity) athletes are in the college. It’s not really an issue of scheduling, rather one of workload…most of the eng athletes I know are in IEOR/EMS/EEE, the “easier” engineering disciplines.

Thank you for replying Skraylor…that is what we suspected. Good to know it is not a scheduling issue though.
