I would like to hear from some people who have participated in a varsity sport at the academy. Their thoughts? Pros and cons? Thanks.

Well i participate in Track right now in HS, but i also would like to hear other current mids opinions???//

i do varsity swimming, roommate runs varsity track.

pros: get out of formations for practices, get varsity status (helps your aptitude for commissioning grade), get to meet a great group of people, make lots of friends, have upperclassmen who can help you out with stuff, get to leave the yard for meets and games, have a place to leave your contraband (the lockeroom)..the list goes on.

cons-you're seen less in company, upperclass don't know u as well, people are jealous you get out of things (all of which can hurt your peer rankings), have to give up liberty for competitions/practices(not alot though), i had to give up half of my winter leave for a training trip.

all in all, totally worth it, if you're willing to put in the time.

Other cons:
A lot of time is devoted to practices and competitions (including road trips), making it difficult to keep up with academic demands. Many Varsity athletes take summer classes, either to reduce academic load during their varsity season, or to make up for deficiency suffered because of it.
CM

I see, but it would still be a good choice to participate correct?

ALso, what are the tryouts like? Does one have to be Super Fast in-order to make the team? or can the coaches work with you to get you up to par?

What percentage does peer rankings play in the overall picture?

you are ranked my your peers and also by your upperclass. rankings are just part of the package, because your qpr, your athletics, prt score, company officer rankings also go into it..etc etc. but rankings are a large part of it, and if your upperclass rarely see you, they don't have as much of a chance to see you as a good performer.
