Varsity sports? Intra-mural?

Which college has a great fencing team? where i would improve a lot by sparring with team mates? My country has weak exposure to the sport, hence causing standards to be low... i;m looking forward to study and in the same time improve, hoping to bring up the standards back in my country.
Anyone can explain what's the difference between varsity, intra-mural, club..etc etc cause in my place, we just compete in state,inter-club levels...

Go to NCAA website, it lists all the schools that support fencing, both men's and women's.
The schools with varsity teams: UPenn, Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Cornell (women's only, reportedly good men's club though), Brown, MIT, CalTech, UNC, Duke, Penn State, Ohio State, New York, Columbia, Northwestern (women's only )etc.
The team strength obviously depends somewhat on a veapon, but the really strong teams are Penn State, Ohio State, UPenn, Harvard, St.John's.
You can also find a lot of info on fencing.net

where is the NCAA website???

YAY FENCING!!!
(where are you from, alextakashi?)

Just google NCAA :)

haha, wow, that was a speedy reply (btw, what does NCAA stand for??)

National Collegiate Athletic Association - governing body of the college sports

oooooooooooooooohhh!!!

I get it! (thank you)

Are you as good as Helene? :)

i;m from malaysia... you? fencing is really mediocre here... though i've seen wiradech kothney fence in thailand (( nearly fence him in 32,**** i lost in 64 )) ...hehe when he went back to thailand and brought up fencing there... oh btw, i;m a sabreur...you guys?

I do not really fence, though it certainly feels like it with both my son and husband fencing sabre. I run tournaments and fencing camps instead.
They fence in Atlanta, at Nellya Fencers (home of the Jacobsons :)).
My son is a senior this year and plans to fence in college.

i fence foil

Wow, hehe foil is... challenging but boring...lol, no offence but all sabreurs will say that... Nellya Fencers..hmm actually i;m looking forward to help my club, and my country's fencing association to do some exchange program, or at least some visits or training camps in places with good exposure and high standards of fencing, maybe after i start my college years in US, i'll need some contacts of good clubs or association that does fencing exchange camps or something like that!! (( fencer with high hopes and vision to promote fencing in my country... ))

haha, I have a tournament this weekend and I havent renewed my USFA card... oops...

Just bring your form and the payment to the bout committee.

yeah, I know. It was just a sudden reminder that I was supposed to have done that 2 months ago.

issit possible for foreign students to compete in ncaa? and join usfa? or compete in any competition of any class in the US?

I am fairly positive that the only tournaments you cannot compete are the Summer National Championships and Junior Olimpics. I am not even sure that you need to get the USFA membership, I think that FIE licence of the membership from your own country will work. International students do compete on the college teams, contace the coach if interested in details. NCAA has a special clearance form for the international students.

thanks a lot for the info.
