I was wondering if school pride is a big deal at Colgate, especially pertaining to athletics? Are the sporting events well attended?

Colgate played in (and won) the Patriot League football championship today. How was that attended--in the snow?

HUGE! it was packed, and even students who don't usually go to the football games were there. same with men's soccer; in the sleet/snow/ice shower the stands were 100% packed -- about 80 people even went to BC to see them play for NCAAs.

the fun aspect about Colgate is that it's super small for a D1 school. so the "D1" energy and atmosphere seeps into all different aspects of the school. Almost 1/5th of the student body IS a varsity athlete, so it's a great place to be if you're athletically-minded or inclined. It also makes the club sports a big deal because the other 4/5ths of the student body don't want to dedicate the time or love the sport but can't make the D1 team. 98% of the student body is involved in some kind of athletic activity.

I think the most surprising and confusing (and disappointing) aspect is that most sporting events are regularly attended by a few loyal fans, but not as many as one might expect. Everyone has the same answer for this though, and it's sort of a golden dilemma: Colgate students all have their own activities and involvements, and while roommates and friends support each other, there's almost too much going on for everyone to participate in and also attend everything else. Personally I always attended the soccer games, and there were usually about 70-100 fans.

^^ Agreed. I told my dad that if Colgate played Villanova on that Saturday AT Colgate, not in some dinky place in PA, we'd go without a question (My parents live about 2 hours away), regardless of the weather.

Didn't happen :(
