UPenn is famous for its competitive school of Business, Wharton, but I was wondering how do your chances of getting accepted into Penn vary depending on the College that you apply to? For example, if I were to apply to the College of Arts and Sciences, would I have an easier/harder time getting in than someone applying to Wharton?

The quickest answer is yes, most likely. But we should not forget that Wharton looks for specific qualities (e.g., leadership, math, interest in business)–so applicants with those qualities may have an easier time getting accepted to Wharton than to, say, CAS.

The bare statistics suggest that CAS has a higher acceptance rate than Wharton. Like foxtails said, though, some applicants might be accepted more easily into Wharton for Whartonlike traits that do not appeal as much to CAS.

CAS is the largest school at Penn. I sort of regret marking my second-choice as Wharton on my Huntsman application. Overall, I may have had a better chance if I selected CAS.

^Hey, who knows? Maybe when your adcom read your app, he/she thought you’d be a great fit for Wharton!
