Varying UC Tuition Charges

Currently UC charges the same undergraduate tuition for all campus, though other fees may vary. The has been discussion about letting campus charge differing amounts. The following article about this topic appeared in today’s LA Times [University of California tuition: Regents weigh varying tuitions at University of California campuses - latimes.com](http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-uc-tuition-20110509,0,5070335.story). I realize UC is disparate for cash but I do not know if this is the best course to take.

That doesn’t really make sense. I thought the UC’s are famous for offering decent education at an affordable price (well not really anymore…). Then again, if this makes the tuition at my school go down, I’m all for it…desperate.

Sooner or later the UCs will realize that variable pricing is not going to work. I mean, who gets to decide if Davis is better than Irvine or Santa Barbara (and be allowed to charge more money)? The campuses will turn on each other in no time (and Merced will certainly be complaining).
