<p>General Comments & Advice:</p>

<p>^^^^No wonder my kid didn’t get in :). Nice profile!</p>

<p>Okay, just got an email that says that they emailed me about financial aid… but no such email exists. Sketchy.</p>

<p>SgtDonut: I had the same problem. It didn’t send the first time, so I called the financial aid office and they re-sent it. This time, it went to my spam folder (using gmail).</p>

<p>accepted! 32 ACT 3.77 UW GPA and a QuestBridge Finalist :)</p>

<p>Hi does anyone know if Vassar accepts appeal? I got rejected, and it took the rejection to make me realise Vassar was what I really wanted… :(</p>

Essays (1-10 rating, details):
Common App Essay: 9.9 - talked about my hair. Made it a satirical piece. most people love it
Supplement Essay: 7 - Talked about my first reaction to Vassar (my love that tons of people had frizzy hair) but it was just so short because it had to be, and I really felt like that ruined it
Optional Essay: 9.9 - Talked about my grandmother and how she changed me. I know talking about people is generally a big nono but everyone that read it cried but still said they took a lot about me out of it.
Recommendations (teacher’s subject, 1-10 rating, details):
Teacher Recommendation #1: French teacher I’ve had for 3 years. No idea how it was but have heard it’s amazing. she loved me so…
Teacher Recommendation #2: AP Gov/Econ teacher. She loved me and I loved her- that class was the best class I’ve ever taken and she really clicked with me and understood me. I have faith that it was a great letter
Counselor Rec: Apparently good. My guidance counselor and I are buddies- and I definitely know she likes me a lot.
Additional Info/Rec:
Interview: None</p>

<p>Other
Date Submitted App: RD
U.S. State/Territory or Country: New Jersey
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female
Income Bracket Range: Middle class-> upper class. nothing overwhelmingly against or for me
Hooks (URM, first generation, recruited athelete, development): Nothing unfortunately. I have a total passion for learning which tends to show in interviews and essays, but I didnt get an interview. other than that my parents are divorced but that’s pretty much half of the country at this point so i dont think it works to my advantage at all</p>

<p>Reflection
Strengths: Personality and essays
Weaknesses: GPA, Extra curriculars, Test scores
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I’ve heard that me not taking Calculus could have worked against me. Other than that my scores fit the school’s scores, but it’s just so competitive that sometimes a fit just isnt enough
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted: Dickinson, TCNJ, Muhlenberg, Bard, Franklin and Marshall. Rejected: Wesleyan and Princeton</p>

<p>General Comments & Advice:Congratulations to everyone that got in! I must say I’m reading all of these excited accepted students and half of me wants to jump up and down with you and be excited for you, and half of me wants to punch you in the face. with love. But seriously, this school is amazing and anyone that got in, I hope you realize that. Anyone rejected, I truly believe that you can have an amazing college experience no matter where you go, so you will have a great time somewhere else.</p>

<p>USC, UCLA, or Vassar?</p>

<p>Felt like I might as well post more specifics about myself as a student for anyone applying next year who may be interested since I’ve decided to attend Vassar.</p>

<p>** Decision: Accepted**

[</em>] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.69
[<em>] Rank (percentile if rank is

[<em>] IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A

[<em>] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): None
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[</em>] Extracurriculars (place leadership in
parenthesis): 9-11th grade outdoor track and field (JV), 10th grade indoor track and field (JV), 10-12th grade cross country (JV), class co-vice president 11-12th grade, playing guitar since 11th grade, participated in school poetry slam in 10th and 12th grade (won honorable mention and audience prize in respective years, also emceed in 12th grade)
[<em>] Job/Work Experience: Had an under-the-table job at a restaurant that I didn’t put on the Common App but discussed with my interviewer.
[</em>] Volunteer/Community service: Only a few hours total. Clearly done just to stay in National Honors Society.
[<em>] Summer Activities: None.
[</em>] Essays: Decent, relating my love for American football to my love for statistics. Well-written but probably a bit far-fetched, especially when I discuss my allegedly strong work ethic.
[<em>] Teacher Recommendation: Didn’t see either of them but both teachers like me a lot and I did very well in my classes with them (94 in Latin 3, 97 in Honors Latin 4, 96 in Honors Latin 5 for one teacher, 100 in Honors Precalculus, 96 in AP Statistics for the other teacher)
[</em>] Counselor Rec: Not sure if my counselor even liked me that much. Probably wasn’t that great.
[<em>] Additional Rec: None.
[</em>] Interview: Went pretty well. Got it in at the last minute with a very friendly alumnus. Didn’t really say much to impress him but I think he liked me.
[<em>] Supplementary Material(if any): None
[/ul]Other[ul]
[</em>] State (if domestic applicant): MA
[<em>] Country (if international applicant): U.S.A.
[</em>] School Type: Public high school, lots of kids have been accepted to Vassar here recently. This year, 1 of 3 got in ED, 1 of 1 got in ED2, and I think 4 of 7 got in RD but I might not be aware of some others who applied.
[<em>] Ethnicity: White
[</em>] Gender: Male
[<em>] Income Bracket(specify if applied for
FA): Around 100k, applied for FA.
[</em>] Hooks (URM, first generation college,
etc.): None that I can think of.
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[<em>] Strengths: Good writer, good test-taker, upward trend on transcript, math/science interests in school are balanced with artistic ECs.
[</em>] Weaknesses: Horrible grades freshman year, barely any ECs, not good at talking to people (which could have negatively influenced my interview and relationships with people who wrote my recs).
[<em>] Why you think you were accepted/
waitlisted/rejected: Vassar probably owed my school a favor or something. Maybe they thought I’m just a “Vassar kind of guy,” whatever that is. Kind of surprised I got in, especially when I look at the results of the other schools I applied to.
[</em>] Where else were you accepted/
waitlisted/rejected: Accepted at Ithaca, UMass Amherst, Skidmore, Vassar. Waitlisted at Colby. Rejected at Brown, Amherst, Tufts, Wesleyan.
[/ul]General Comments: I posted on a different account about a year ago asking what my chances were at some colleges and Vassar was a “high reach.” If you were one of the people posting on that thread, joke’s on you. And if you’re a future applicant reading this, don’t be deterred by the people here who tell you what your “chances” are because you never know.</p>

<p>ACCEPTED!!!
I won’t list my everything because it’s time-consuming, but I WILL say that I think my alum interview really helped because I heard my interviewer thought I was the perfect fit and was the best applicant she ever interviewed. Also, being a QuestBridge finalist probably boosted my chance as it’s a partner school and everything.
But I also got into Middlebury which is the best option in terms of what I want to major in, so it’s tough. Luckily, I am visiting both :3</p>
