Vassar Class of 2022 Regular Decision

Yes, but that time it was the other way around - applicants were emailed that they were accepted and they were not! Far worse. This makes me think that my son did not get in, because we have gotten those incomplete Financial Aid info emails from 3 of the 5 schools that he has been accepted to so far. In two of the cases we got the email after acceptance, but in one case it was a week or so BEFORE acceptance and I wondered if it was a secret sign that he had gotten in, because why would they be bothering to contact us for the info if he were rejected. In retrospect, I think it was a sign. Oh well, maybe his FA info is complete for Vassar and he will get in after all. Or maybe not. Vassar is a bit of a reach for him, although he is a legacy, so he has a slight advantage on that end. I guess we will have to wait til the end of the month to know for sure.

@momof2boys65 let’s hope it’s nothing

Was she actually missing documents? @Avocadudette

@momof2boys65 this really has me worried as well. We did not get any email and this is truly one of D’s top choices.

@swtaffy904 Same here. This was one my S was really hoping to get into. Anyone hear any rumors or indications of when they would be releasing results?

@Anxiousdad53 Vassar told me (via Facebook) that decisions would be released at the end of the month. I’m predicting the last Monday of March.

I believe last year the decisions were released on the 28th, which was a Tuesday. I am sure that only people who had a missing document from FA (and got in) would have gotten this email, so if you didn’t get it, it doesn’t mean rejection. This just worries me personally since we have gotten this exact type of letter from other schools I would expect to get it again (usually some simple form that we need to sign, attesting that he had no income in 2016 and did not file a tax return). I am not even sure if Vassar is his top choice, although I know he liked it. Since I am an alum, I was really hoping he would get in (and of course would be thrilled if he attends). Not a tragedy if he doesn’t, since he has other top choices he already got in to, but certainly disappointing. As I mentioned, it is a bit of a reach for him and certainly the best reputation school on his list, so I wouldn’t be shocked if he doesn’t make it - just sad.

@writergirl0316 yes, she was actually missing documents. To be clear, these are actual admittances but just went out too soon. My daughter’s stats are
4.2 GPA
1370 SAT
30 ACT (English 34, Math 25)

And we are from California

i just checked on idoc that i have a missing document as well but i never received the email from Vassar. :frowning:

Did anyone’s status page change? When I checked mine the only thing there was my last update for ED and everything regarding sending in recommendations and other materials is gone.

when do we hear back?

@afisher623 At this point, I’m thinking this week?

As much as I would like it to be this week, last year it wasn’t until the 28th. I wish it were earlier, but I’m thinking it’s the week after that, and if it’s before that I’ll be surprised. Has anyone heard something that would indicate it is supposed to be earlier?

@momof2boys65 I had a similar thing happen with another school; they contacted us for additional information 4 days before decisions were released. I thought it was odd since the request was quite detailed and so close to release date, and a sign that she would be accepted. I posted here and most people thought I was grasping at straws. Indeed, she was accepted to that school. I feel that these last minute requests are indeed a potential positive tip - however it is important that they are not robot generated emails. We did receive a generic request for documentation about a week before another school released decisions, D was denied. On the other hand, D has been admitted to schools that did not ask for additional paperwork. So, in my mind it’s a good sign if the inquiry is detailed and personal, and nothing to get excited about if it’s a robot email. On the other hand not getting that email is not a sure sign of not being admitted.

I know someone else who got the parent email & subsequent dean call. I’ve been accepted to a school I’d likely attend over Vassar, but this still feels odd and unsettling.

Maybe we’ll get more information tonight or tomorrow, when decisions will be released?

@writergirl0316 Money aside, would you really go to JHU over Vassar if given the chance? The road to heck is paved with students who have one distinct area of interest (writing for you) and then go to schools like MIT and JHU which are without a doubt STEM focused (or pre-professional) because of the perceived “name value”. If I’m a writer, it’s Vassar over JHU by a mile.

^While my family has personal connections to Vassar and not to JHU, and I personally prefer Vassar overall, I have to disagree with that comment. JHU is not just a “stem”school. It also is not comparable to MIT, in that it is not a tech school with liberal arts included, but rather a bona fide liberal arts school. It offers a full liberal arts program with very respected majors and programs across the board, including writing. Look up their Writing Seminars, and their Master of Fine Arts program in writing. They have produced fine writers and have famous writers (e.g, Alice McDermott) as faculty members.

For me, it seems like Hopkins is a better choice because they gave me an academic excellence award that replaces almost all of my loans (which Vassar wouldn’t), and they also gave me a 10K research fellowship with one-on-one faculty mentorship to study literary criticism and gender/media studies over my four years there. Plus, they have a designated Writing Seminars major – not just lumped into an English major – which has a lot of incredible opportunities, if I do decide I want to pursue that as a career. I’m also quite interested in International Relations and they have an amazing program. I really loved Vassar and had a great interview, but it’d be tough for them to compete with what Hopkins offered me. (It would be tough for any school that has student loans as part of their financial package, honestly.) @harper3125

@Anxiousdad53 @SaphaelEterna the application checklist is gone and the portal says “At this late stage in the application process, this online application checklist is closed. You will receive an email with details on checking your decision closer to the notification date.” so it should be soon, i feel like definitely by the 26th
