Vassar College 2013 Regular Decision

Sailor V: My son is graduating from Vassar and my daughter is a first year at Carleton. Both kids have had excellent education opportunites and a heck of a lot of fun. The fun is really important as they work very hard. The women who go to Smith just love it, our favorite niece is a junior there. But I know that she doesn’t have enough “fun” - she is always working. So check out the “fun” factors at each school - and I’m not just talking about parties - but all the extra crazy stuff that most campuses offer. As well as how spontaneous is the community into which you will live for the next few years. Best of luck.

SailorV, My daughter chose Vassar over Bryn Mawr because she really preferred the culture of a coed environment. She made this decision after an admitted student visit at Bryn Mawr. She does have a Vassar boyfreind and that certainly adds to her happiness but she also felt that girls relate differently to eachother in an all girl environment.

Although these schools seem similar academically there are important differences that may be important to you. Vassar has a very open curiculum with very few distribution requirements. It also emphasises integrative studies, another way it differes sharply from some other LAC’s. My strong recommendation would be to stay overnight at every school you are seriously considering.

I was waitlisted… I’m devastated. I absolutely love Vassar. I was waitlisted at Vassar, Columbia, Bowdoin and Wesleyan, and accepted at Skidmore, Emerson, Suffolk, and UMaine.

I have every intention of staying on Vassar’s waitlist, hoping for some miracle of fate that I’ll get accepted… In the meantime, though, it appears as if I’m heading to Skidmore or Emerson.

Accepted! Found out on Monday!

Azmom888, as I was wandering over this page, I was excited to see your post… Carleton and Vassar are actually the exact two schools I’m trying to make my decision between. How would you compare the two?

lordofmeesi college decision extravaganza 2009: vassar vs. peace corps!

yeah, rejected from everything else but my safeties. thus, i’ll probably be at vassar, but only after a completely fabulous gap year traversing the globe. i hope.

but even if i had been accepted to more places, unless i had gotten into brown, i would’ve chosen vassar over everything else. it sounds like there’s a lot of fun to be found on campus. of all kinds. plus, i’m all for an open curriculum.
