I have my Vassar Alumni interview coming up on the 20th. A lot of people are telling me that I should wear girls dress pants, a button up shirt, and a blazer. I'm not sure f this is too dressy since it's an informational interview that I have at 10:00am but am supposed to stay after to hear some speeches or something. Some people told me leggings would be okay, but I am not sure. I would really like help if anyone has attended this event before. Advice or suggestions please?

Oh heavens. Be original! As long as your clothes are neat and not too low cut, wear what you want…

Wear whatever you are comfortable wearing. Casual/professional sounds good. Dont wear jeans and a tshirt, or spikes and chains. Other than that, you’ll be fine.

As an aside, I was surprised that the request to alums to do interviews in my area just went out the other day. Seems a bit late, IMO.

I just had my alumni interview two hours ago. My interviewer wore jeans, a sweater, and a scarf. She was a young, kind, personable lady. If I were a girl, I would take radannie’s advice. Oh and jym, the alum told me that they have until feb 25 to submit interview reports.

Well that makes me even more concerned, Dedede!! I just got the email asking for local interviewers to interview about 15 local candidates a few days ago!!! Looks like someone dropped the ball on this one!

Are these interviews for current juniors, or current seniors?
Because I thought the interview deadlines for this years’ applicants was past; am I mistaken?
Also I understood Vassar’s info to say that the interview was completely optional/ informational and “didn’t count”, is this mistaken? Getting a little nervous with all this talk about them since my son got this impression, and didn’t ask for one.

The email request to alums to conduct interviews (at least the one that I got) was for CURRENT applicants. They don’t interview at this point for next year’s applicants, as far as I know. And since I got it 2 days ago, and theysaid the were looking to interview in the next few weeks, I have to surmise that the Feb 25 deadline reported above is a little loose. That said, I woulndt sweat it, monydad. Asking for an interview shows interest, for sure, but it isn not mandatory by any means. One applicant I interviewed last year clearly knew virtually nothing about the shcool. She said she’d visited campus, but could tell me nothing about the school that made it a choice for her. She repeated the same 1 word answer no matter how many ways I asked what she liked about the school and what made her feel it was a good choice for her. Please folks, do some homework and know a little something about any school you interview with.

My daughter requested an interview, but still has heard nothing. Ahe called the office and left a message, then asked me if I could find out for her. I emailed them and they wrote back to say they’d forward my email to the lead person in our area. I feel much better knowing interviews might still be scheduled.

That is correct, from what I understand, Java. The interview requests are sent to the local clubs, aas well as a list of local alums who have offered to do interviews. Some regional alumnae clubs are more organized than others. What part of the country are you in, java?

I live next to Ann Arbor. Any insight on our Vassar alumni situation would be appreciated if you have it!
Of course it’s not the end of the world if she doesn’t get one, but would be good to know it’s not going to happen.

I am guessing you would be under the Southeastern Alumnae club (the other is in Western Michigan). I am not in that area so would not have any further information. I don’t see the club officers listed in the alumnae website. Best would be to call admissions again and let them know you are still waiting to hear about an interview. Good luck!

Thanks for your help! By coincidence, we heard today and my daughter is really looking forward to her interview this Saturday.

Karma!! Good luck!

Monydad…please don’t worry that your son didn’t request an interview. Our son did not request one and was admitted EDI. Good luck to your son!

My son also requested an interview after filing his application. Yet has heard nothing. A visit is not possible so I guess a decision will be made without an interview. C’est la vie.

From everything I hear these interviews(Vassar) are strictly informational and not evaluative. So if you don’t have one, it won’t hurt you. Good luck to all.

They do ask for our feedback (there is a form we complete after the interview) but its hard to say how much stock they put in it. If there is some glaring problem (eg show up with a firearm or threaten the alum, LOL) they will listen to that. Don’t do that!

My son was just notified today by the Admissions Office that his request (made January 1st) for an alumni interview was noted in his application file. He was reassured that his lack of an interview would have no negative impact on his application. (He was never contacted by an alum.)

Obviously, at this point in time, an interview wasn’t going to happen. I wondered if they had “lost” his original request and now in reviewing his application “found” the original request.

Just letting others know that if they also requested an alumni interview and never heard anything, my son was in the same situation.

Two more weeks and all the suspense will be suspended. :)

They didnt lose his request, they just notify everyone this late if they didnt get you an interview. I just got another email actually as i applied ED and got one back then too.

@homeschooling
same case here for my son…no interview, email from admissions reassuring it will not negatively impact his application.
