Hi! I’m a freshman theatre major at Muhlenberg looking to transfer. I was wondering if anyone knows how stingy the Drama program is at Vassar for accepting credits from other schools? I don’t want to apply to any schools that would make me start over as a freshman or do a 5th year to catch up, and Vassar’s Drama dept is the only one on my list that didn’t either have the info online or answer my emails.
@DropOfSun I can’t answer your question but just curious as to why you want to transfer from Muhlenberg, as that is one of my daughter’s top choices for theatre.
@DropOfSun I know NOTHING about Vassar; but I thought I would throw this out there: D auditioned at UArts last Saturday. One of the 3 students on the Q & A panel was a lovely gal who transferred into the BFA MT after 2 years at community college. UArts was incredibly gracious in transfer credits-including some acting credits.
You may not be at all interested…but knowledge is power, and someone reading this may find that pertinent. Break legs!
I can PM you if you want it’s kind of a long answer that can mostly be summed up with “not the right fit.” If theatre is the primary reason your daughter is applying I would maybe urge you to consider other schools first.
DropOfSun, it’s obvious from your stats that you’re be dealing with “fit” issues as a Mule. A lot of kids are drawn to Muhlenberg based on its theatre rep and the subsequent “best of” lists. Many, however, arrive with stellar academic backgrounds and find themselves confronted with less than challenging classes. Good luck with your transfer journey!
Eh, the reasons I’m leaving are mostly to do with its theater program. And, FWIW, the “Best Of” list Berg was using for publicity was ranking based on how satisfied polled students were, as opposed to any more quantifiable method of ranking training.
My daughter is looking at Muhlenberg for theatre so would love to hear your thoughts. I tried to pm you but I couldn’t figure out how. Hopefully, it will let you message me. Thanks!!
@DropOfSun - I don’t know if this is useful but my take on Vassar is they are pretty laid-back technologically and they are big on personal interaction. So I would call the college directly and get connected to the theater dept administrator to ask your question. I know most of us hate to make phone calls but in this case I think you’d save a lot of time. Vassar is such a wonderful school (I don’t know Muhlenberg, not comparing them) but having visited it twice for two different kids my overall take is they don’t rely on technology as heavily as many other institutions.
@DropOfSun My daughter is trying to decide between Muhlenberg and Vassar. She likes musical theater and didn’t get the feeling that there was a lot of musical theater at Vassar. I tried to PM you but I don’t know how! Anyway, am curious as to why you are leaving. We are getting down to the wire and are so exhausted that decisions are difficult at this point
