It depends on preferred vices:

Drink-Middlebury
Smoke-Vassar

But seriously, if you got into both you can’t really need our help.

There is a big difference in location. Middlebury has very cold weather - it is about 1/2 hour from Burlington. Vassar is in the Hudson River valley with much milder weather and in the suburbs of Poughkeepsie. Music is much stronger at Vassar and Skinner music building is just gorgeous with Steinways in every practice room. The orchestra and jazz instructors at Vassar are fantastic. I hear that music at Middlebury is getting stronger (their orchestra conductor is great) so depending on what you need, it may be just fine for you. Try to get to a concert at each school in April - you will know which is best for you. If you can’t visit, Vassar has the concert webcasts on the music department page - not sure about Middlebury. We loved both schools also but chose Vassar for the music.

I am writing from the town of Middlebury now. Middlebury is beautiful, but it is very spread out. Although Vassar’s acreage may be greater (it has the farm), the academic buildings are closer together. This may or may not be a factor for you.

Midd’s facilities seem a bit more up-to-date, but Vassar’s buildings have more uniqueness.

Both are great schools which Midd tilting a bit more toward prep and Vassar a bit more toward hipster.

But many, many students would thrive at either.

Wow, thz I guess I’ll just choose what I feel best for then. oh btw, is one more prestigious than the other?
