Vassar transfer chances, will chance back

I'm a freshman at Occidental College and I think I might transfer to Vassar, Wesleyan or Trinity College. It's not that I hate Oxy so much as that I think Vassar would be better. I've lived in LA all of my life and I wanted to go out of state but I settled for Occidental because I wanted to be close to home just in case the transition would be rough and it gave me a good scholarship. Could I get in as a transfer applicant junior year?

High School ranked 80th in the nation among public schools

Other: Took two foreign languages instead of just one. (I took 4 years of Spanish and got all B's but junior year I took Spanish 4 and French 1 and got A's in French, got an A first semester of French 2)
Extra Circulars:
Played piano for 9 years
Studied Polish in Poland over the summer and had an internship with a Polish software company
Took French classes in Paris over the summer between my senior year of high school and my freshman year of college.
Interned and volunteered/campaigned for a local Congresswoman
Intern for Obama for America 2012 Campaign
Freelance Political columnist for school newspaper
Salesman and Distributor of Alkaline Water Filters for a local family friend
Model United Nations
School didn't do class rank
Race: White

In my first semester I didn't do as well as I wanted. I got:
Econ 101 A-
French 201 C+
Calc 1 B-
CSP (Writing Core Component) B+
This leaves me with a 3.0 GPA. Next semester I'm going to take
Econ 102
Politics 101
Euro History Since 1700
CSP
For the summer I have an internship lined up with the New York City Economic Development Council, so that would be good since I'm planning on being an Econ major. I'm also a board member of the Occidental Democrats, so it shows leadership. I'm really freaking about my grades, knowing that the acceptance rate is only 10 to 15%. Vassar is my dream school, I just realized it too late.

What should I do?

kevin1297,

If I were you I would definitely apply to all three schools this spring. Your SAT’s, high school grades, and extracurricular activities are all great. Although your college GPA is below average for the three schools, it would not hurt you to apply this year because even if you don’t get accepted this time around, you can crank out a 3.75+ GPA for the next two semesters and give it a go again.

i agree with smith, definitely apply, and although I’m not familiar with these schools, from your hs stats you look pretty strong. I think they can forgive you for your first semester grades IF you start working harder this semester. an upward trend is always good

i agree as wel! your HS grades are pretty good and your SAT is solid. I know Vassar is into eclectic students so i think your best bet is to stand out in your admissions essay (not sure if transfers have the same as first years…)
