So I am leaning towards business, but I am not solely sure that Is what I want for my future. I love everything about Vassar but it is limited in majors. I’m not sure which is the better path given I have the opportunity to choose between the two. Any advice, or opinions on these two in comparison?
Vassar of course offers a much greater array of majors than Babson. To appreciate the academic experience available at Vassar, however, you should be interested in taking a wide variety of courses in college (beyond those from your major of choice), such as those from the fields of classics, philosophy, religious studies, government, literature and history, or some other combination – which may, and probably should, include natural sciences and math and social sciences, for example – that aligns with your interests.
I wouldn’t say that Vassar is limited in majors…it has the pretty standard set of majors that most liberal arts colleges have plus a couple of different ones (astronomy, cognitive science).
If you’re not sure that you want to study business, it would seem to me that Vassar is the better choice for you - since at Babson your only choice IS business. Now do understand that Babson takes a really broad approach to business - including lots of social, environmental, and humanistic factors as well. It’s still a liberal arts college, after all. You can concentrate in historical and political studies, or identity and diversity, or literary and visual arts, or statistical modeling. So it’s not like you’ll be taking business classes and nothing else; if you want to study business but in the context of a wider world of other areas, Babson could still be a good choice. But business will still be your major focus.
If you’re not sure that you want to major in business at all, then Vassar is the far better choice. Remember also that Vassar has an independent studies program which allows you to shape your own major in consultation with a faculty member or two.
If you aren’t 100% certain that you want to go into business, I think Vassar is the better choice – as long as you like the school and can afford it.
Regardless, I suggest applying to more schools, since Vassar is very selective and might not admit you even if you have high stats.
I’d say go with Vassar. Vassar is a superior education and, with an economics degree from Vassar, you can still go into the business world
Forbes regards Vassar as being among the “10 Expensive Colleges Worth Every Penny”:
Agree, if you are not 100% sure you want business then I don’t think Babson is the best option. Have you looked into LACs that do offer business majors?
