Hi, I am considering Bates and Vassar. Which school is better at Science and economics?

Knowing both schools pretty well for different reasons I can say that each one is strong in both the sciences and in economics. A stat I remember from a booklet is that ~90% of Bates grads get into medical school but I'm sure Vassar has a sizable amount of people getting into medical school as well. I'm not sure if anyone can give you any conclusive information on which one is "better" but maybe you should decide based more on which one you like more?

I know that Bates does not have a computer science major if you care. Do you want snow or rain? They are very different schools. Many people who get into Bates don't qualify for Vassar. It is much easier to get into so the calibre of the students is going to be less academically. Bates is definitely less diverse than Vassar. Both have good academics. Bates is much smaller if that matters as well. Can't go wrong with either.

thanks for all the info provided!

i know Vassar has a very liberal atmosphere - i respect that, and I am attracted by that.... does Vassar offer BS or just BA? i know they are sorta the same for liberal arts colleges:-D but, doesn't hurt to ask...

Vassar actually offers an A.B. (Latin)

My brother went to Bates, it is more jocky/preppy and pre-professional. I looked at Vassar heavily and saw that it has more students oriented towards the arts and also a 60% female student body and many of the male students are gay. Very different types of school, defends on what you prefer to be around!

i have mailed my money order and candidate reply to vassar... very very painful decision... go Vassar!

great decision. congrats.
