The profile of the recruited athlete most likely doesn’t represent the norm. The athlete was a C band recruit (low GPA and test scores compared to the class profile), and although I don’t know how many C band recruits were admitted at Bowdoin, Amherst admitted only 12. It stands to reason that USNWR profiled the recruited athlete because he’s an outlier.
Having said that, I understand the point you were trying to convey. You’re rarely wrong, and it’s a valid assessment that a 3.6 GPA will not keep LNY from consideration at Bowdoin.
LeavingNY, I’m assuming that you’re a junior because the ED deadline for Haverford was in November.
By any chance are you applying to one of your ED colleges of interest through QuestBridge? All three participate in the QuestBridge program. So do Brown and Wesleyan. Both have numerous cross applications with Vassar.
@CrewDad I was not planning on applying through Quest Bridge. I never considered Brown (1) Because I always thought of it as very focused on GPA; but this has stopped me from even researching the school much, which may be why (2) I am not sure it would be a good fit. I always find it difficult to choose match/reach/saftey schools… I was hoping browsing CC would help a bit with that.
@LeavingNY: Your hook (I only counted 1?) will ultimately shift what you need to be thinking about. There are few colleges where you will not be accepted, so that creates the challenge of choosing among the many options you will have. I agree with the other posters that Vassar and Haverford, as well as the other schools mentioned, are excellent colleges, and warrant your further, in depth, consideration.
Don’t forget that Haverford as Bryn Mawr right across the street, an absolutely gorgeous campus that Haverford (and Swarthmore, and Penn) students can all fully cross register in each other’s classes
