Vassar Waitlist 2014

5/2/14

My daughter's waitlisted this year. I saw a discussion thread from a few years ago where folks sent updates (i.e. "Haven't heard anything yet," or "My friend heard from them yesterday." That kind of thing.

I didn't see that anyone had started a thread for this year, so here it is.

Anyone hear anything?

PS Please put the date on your post. CC just puts "early May" or something like that.

5/5/14

I’ve heard that Vassar sends out emails at the beginnings of weeks. Nothing today (Monday).

5/5/14 Transfer decisions will be posted on May 12th. I assume the wait list will be notified shortly after that.

I’m also waitlisted, and I’ve heard nothing yet. They also said on the wait list offer that you can hear as late as July, but it would make sense if they notified the first wave of wait list acceptances a little after the 12.

D just got email of acceptance off wait list and have to give decision by may 9…

Calbear, that’s great. Congrats, though my heart sinks a little knowing H still hasn’t heard anything. Is D male or female? Will you be taking the offer?

Calbear - in addition to the email, do you know if there was a change in where the admissions login sends you? I’ve been checking for a change in H’s status by logging in to the admissions portal, the same one that sends me to the waitlist letter. Now that D has an offer, does the portal send you to a different page?

One of my friends got off wait list too. Feel excited about this news!! ^^

Kwog64…Daughter got an email from the Vassar rep from our area but there was no change on the web log in…still deciding…I this ink they will keep going g to list as kids decline so don’t lose hope.good luck.

Thanks calbear. Guess I’ll stop obsessively checking the login and trust that she’s checking her email. We keep telling each other not to obsess - and then each of us obesses in private!

So it’s Monday 5/12, 5:45 PM. Anybody hear anything today?

5/12/14
@Kwog64 Nothing here

FWIW our college advisor told me today that once they’ve filled up all the slots from the list, they WILL send an email telling those still on the list that it’s all done. I was worried they might just leave people hanging all summer. Nice to know there’s closure either way.

In case anyone anxiously checks this thread like I do, I just thought I’d let everyone know that a female at my school got off the waitlist yesterday May 13th. She’s not going by the way.

Thanks goodoldneon. Guess another wave of offers went out. Selfishly glad to hear your friend turned it down!

Yeah that’s good to know. Does anyone know how many rounds they send out and what the yield for waitlist offers is (percentage of people who accept)?

I thought it was just an email going out if accepted from waitlist. Should we be checking website? Any idea how many students were waitlisted and how many they accept off the list?

Sophumb - The only info I’ve seen on yield is from previous years.

Allie - From what others have said on this thread, a wave of acceptance emails went out on 5/7, and another on 5/13. From what I’ve read about previous years, Vassar apparently does periodic (weekly?) waves of emails and gives those students a few days to respond. It seems the waves continue until the seats are all taken. RE the website - Calbear said earlier that the website still showed the waitlist letter even after they received their acceptance email.

If anyone has more info or updates, let’s hear it. at this point, any info might ease the anxiety. I’m sure for everyone it’s the not knowing that’s so tough.

Hello! I got an email from my admissions officer yesterday, offering me a spot in the class of 2018. I had until tomorrow to decide, and I already accepted. There was no mention of how many people have been or would be taken off the waitlist this year.

Good luck everyone!

@Sintra, is that admissions officer someone you had already met or been in contact with? Also, was any mention made of financial aid (ie do you think your need or lack of need had anything to do with their decision?) Thanks.
